By removing Christianity from all aspects of American society, liberals insure eventual chaos and the moral breakdown of our country. By excusing bad behavior by pointing to worse behavior, liberals prove they are unfit leaders and miserably unable to keep our nation strong, respected and admired. This book is a great way to look at what the left considers utopia and at the same time shows us exactly why the perfect world will be forever unattainable. It also points out how dangerous it would be to allow the left to implement its plan to create an American utopia. When a liberal makes demands hes actually selling you something you really dont want. When he tells you something, its a pretty good bet your getting less than half the truth on any given matter. Its not a good idea to trust liberals with the security of our nation and its an even worse idea to ignore their efforts to further their agenda. By ignoring their ridiculous claims and ideas, weve allowed liberals to get a foothold and with that theyve been able to gain ground. In fact, if we dont put and end to their foolishness soon this land wont be ours anymore. It will be theirs. The Second World War put an end to America's historical isolation from international power politics, and so also to the long-standing American defiance of the Realist ideology that shaped Old World affairs. The advent of transoceanic military technologies, now wielded by menacing states such as Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, made Americans more receptive to the Realist idea that international relations is about fear and survival. The American Realists Reinhold Niebuhr, Hans Morgenthau, and Kenneth Waltz developed a modern strategic framework that sought to introduce American leaders and the educated public to these harsher realities of international politics. They emphasized a clear-eyed, cold approach to the play of interests, egotism, and the drive for power in world affairs—a struggle in which the threat of major war remained, in the end, the only legitimate currency. Yet even as Americans began to accept this new Realism, thermonuclear weaponry threatened to make it absurd. A major war to defend the nation might result in its total destruction; a thermonuclear war leading to the death of hundreds of millions of citizens seemed an unusual way to preserve American survival. This dilemma became central to the Realist understanding of Niebuhr, Morgenthau, and Waltz. How could a Realist approach to international politics and war be sustained in the face of possible global annihilation? While these authors' political inclinations are well known and much discussed, previous studies have failed to adequately analyse the surrounding political circumstances that informed the specific utopian aspirations in each writer's works. Balancing a thorough knowledge of their works with an understanding of the political climate of the early twentieth century, Leon Surette provides new insights into the motivations and development of each writer's respective political postures. Dreams of a Totalitarian Utopia examines their political commentary and their correspondence with each other from 1910s to the 1950s. Contextualizing their political thought in a world troubled by two world wars, the Great Depression, and the Bolshevik Revolution, Surette traces their shared concerns and the divergent responses of each of these figures in the historical moment to the risk they perceived of democracies becoming the pawns of commercial and industrial elites, leading to war and mindless consumerism. They all leaned toward autocratic solutions, though Pound and Lewis eventually admitted their error.
