Libertà marginali sono quelle di coloro che si vedono costretti in una cella o in una casa, perché colpevoli e manchevoli verso la società; libertà marginali sono quelle che scaturiscono da tutti quei dispositivi giuridici (messa alla prova, libertà condizionata, semilibertà, custodia cautelare, ecc.) che circoscrivono e delimitano la possibilità di un soggetto di agire, a causa di un cattivo uso della propria libertà; marginale è, però, anche la libertà che questi ragazzi hanno di scegliere una propria strada, perché troppo spesso essa appare come segnata da un contesto, da un destino familiare, fatto di violenza, delinquenza e criminalità, che costituiscono la realtà data e data per scontata. Cosa può mettersi tra questo destino e la possibilità di un progetto autonomo di vita? Come riportare questi ragazzi dal margine delle loro responsabilità e delle loro scelte al centro della propria esistenza? Su quali e quanti fronti si gioca questa sfida? Convinzione di chi scrive è che si tratti di una sfida complessa, che richiede un costante lavoro educativo che abbia le caratteristiche della multidimensionalità e della policontestualità, esprimendosi in più dimensioni (culturale, educativa, psicologica, sociale) e in più contesti (scuola, famiglia, lavoro, gruppo dei pari). Accoglierla significa pensare di lavorare su se stessi e sulla propria visione del mondo, prima ancora che sull’altro; significa saper essere in dialogo con le proprie emozioni, per gestirle consapevolmente; significa continuare a credere e sperare nel cambiamento, anche di fronte alle continue disconferme e criticità che il contesto pone.

Una difficoltà legata alla carenza del tessuto sociale che rende una storia difficile enormemente più difficile, proprio perché il contesto non sostiene la difficoltà: il bambino con difficoltà spesso vive in una famiglia difficile, in un quartiere difficile, in una città difficile, in una Regione difficile. Educare in queste situazioni significa riuscire ad incarnare le teorie e orientare le pratiche nel confronto con questo quotidiano, con questi bambini e ragazzi, non smettendo mai di immaginare con loro e per loro un altrimenti e un altrove.

Lode Walgrave has made a highly significant contribution to the worldwide development of the restorative justice movement over the last two decades.
