El desentrañar el libro como un objeto material en cuya elaboración intervienen hombres y mujeres dedicados a su encargo y edición, su elaboración material y su distribución comercial sigue conformando el conjunto de los aspectos relacionados con el mundo del libro antiguo sobre el que más aportaciones científicas se realizan y más se investiga. Sin embargo, quedan todavía muchas facetas que continúan requiriendo profundización: el nombre de los oficiales de imprenta en los talleres; el de los artistas iluminadores, diseñadores de estampas, grabadores; las tiradas; los costes de producción…, entre otras muchas. Apreciar los caminos que sigue el libro para llegar a un lector, el editor que difunde la obra, las causas que llevan los libros a determinados lugares y determinadas manos, las relaciones comerciales que se establecen, las rutas, mercados y ferias, la actividad de los transportistas y la de los mercaderes de libros, la trascendencia que el lector posee en relación con la edición de nuevas obras, cerrándose así el círculo de la oferta y la demanda, son aspectos tratados los días 7, 8 y 9 de septiembre de 2016 en Zaragoza en el II Congreso Internacional sobre el Libro Medieval y Moderno con la participación autores de primera fila en la investigación sobre el libro que conforman más de una treintena de comunicaciones muy heterogéneas en torno a la materialidad del libro.

La obra contiene, extractados, todos los libros de emblemas que se publicaron en español durante los siglos XVI y XVII. El libro se presenta en primera instancia como índice alfabético de los motivos iconográficos principales presentes en cada emblema. Pero, además, se podrá acceder a los emblemas mediante búsquedas realizadas a partir de los índices complementarios: de autores, lemas, fuentes y claves temáticas, aparte de los motivos iconográficos secundarios. Completa el volumen un glosario terminológico y de personajes que ayuda a la comprensión de los significados. El desarrollo de los estudios de emblemática en el ámbito internacional (existe una extensa Society for Emblem Studies) ha hecho aconsejable introducir traducción al inglés de los campos de información más relevantes. Y las ventajas que proporcionan las nuevas tecnologías han sido aprovechadas con la incorporación de un CD-ROM (ejecutable por igual en los sistemas Macintosh y PC) que agiliza la combinación de búsquedas complejas. Tanto el CD-ROM como el libro reproducen los grabados de los 1.732 emblemas estudiados.

Erik Iversen describes the powerful effect of the "myth of Egypt," particularly Egyptian hieroglyphs, on European literature, art, religion, and philosophy. This is the story of a creative misunderstanding: an erroneous interpretation of the traditions of ancient Egypt became a rich source of inspiration for Europeans from ancient times through the medieval and Renaissance periods to the Baroque era. The misguided notion that hieroglyphs were allegorical, and that they constituted a sacred writing of ideas, exerted a dynamic influence in almost all fields of intellectual and artistic endeavor, as did conceptions of Egypt as the venerable home of true wisdom and of occult and mystic knowledge. The Baroque Piazza Navona in Rome, for instance, is only one of the many great public spaces that center on an Egyptian obelisk and an attempt to read its mysterious signs. Iversen begins by discussing the nature of Egyptian writing. Then he explains, in detail and with apposite illustrations and quotations, the ways in which Europeans tried to understand and use the hieroglyphs.
