A book with two crossed destinies, two very different people, everything separates them. However, they will cross paths, love and hate each other. Life is never a straight highway. The beginning of the story begins in Laredo, a city in Texas. If we cross the street, we are in Mexico. The choice of the city is not insignificant, the foreigner, or the future migrant, is your neighbor. A few steps away, Mexico has established a new city, the new Laredo. The migrant did not walk for thousands of kilometers, he lived across the street. Alejandro is the son of migrants, his parents are Mexican, and he too lived about fifty kilometers from Laredo. It is surprising to mention migrants in the United States, apart from Native Americans, all the inhabitants are migrants or descendants of migrants. The term highlights contempt. We talk about Italian-Americans, but never about Irish-Americans. The words we use, the choice of terms, has a meaning. Laredo, the USA, is the country of sufficiency, you won't starve there if you work, your children go to school, the American way of life will allow them to become rich, and enjoy all the pleasures of the life. Priscilla is an American girl, she is descended from English migrants who landed here several centuries ago. Blonde, green eyes, no doubt about her origins. His parents are part of the middle class, they observe Mexico with empathy. But the sons of migrants from the South exasperate them. They don't want to integrate into American society. They live in clans, like animals would. One day, she eats an ice cream on a road that leads nowhere, probably in California, Alejandro sits next to her, he harasses her to get a kiss. He decides that she is his girlfriend. She doesn't respond, she's shy, and doesn't dare to impose herself. A few days later, he introduces her to her parents, they invite her to eat next Sunday. She dares not say no. One morning, James appears, Priscilla loves him, he is pimply, she finds him so handsome. Alejandro goes crazy. He goes into crisis. James stole his girlfriend, she belongs to him. Alejandro after a big mistake is sentenced to ten years in prison, to the great relief of the two lovers. He gets out of prison. A few days later, Priscilla realizes that in Laredo, life has stopped. No one saw, not even a dog or a bird, just the wind and the heat were present. James is towards her, they are the only ones alive, the inhabitants did not flee, they died, at the same time, all the lives flew away. They supervise Laredo for any sign of life, none. They are waiting for help. America will realize that Laredo has a problem. Surely ten kilometers away, people live, love and breathe. Laredo begins to smell of death, bodies are decomposing, insects are beginning to scurry everywhere. Leaving is the only solution. Texas couldn't die, Dallas, Houston are immortal cities. A silhouette observes them.

A Borderlands Town In Transition written by Gilberto Miguel Hinojosa and has been published by Texas A&M University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1983 with Laredo (Tex.) categories.

Wave upon wave of newcomers has penetrated the semiarid plains of the U.S.-Mexican borderlands. Among the settlers and sojourners along the Rio Grande in the mid–eighteenth century were the founders of Laredo, who came seeking survival and permanence in that chaparral country. Established in 1755 as an outpost of New Spain, Laredo, like other borderlands towns, has periodically been buffeted by powerful outside forces that upset the stable society and family unity characteristic of the early villa. Unlike some other border communities, though, it has maintained a prominent Mexican-American political and economic elite. Applying quantitative techniques of demographic analysis and interweaving their results with more traditional narrative, Gilberto Miguel Hinojosa tells the story of a borderlands town and its people. He shows how larger events such as war, economic depression, and changes of sovereignty affected family structure, racial and ethnic divisions, social-class relations, age composition of the population, property ownership, literacy, and other aspects of the daily lives of the townspeople. His conclusions suggest that life in these communities was far from the static, uneventful existence it was once believed to be.

The twin cities of Laredo can stand as a beacon of wealth for some and a cauldron of despair to others. Ernesto Acosta, Los Zenetas top sicario, is currently caught somewhere in between. That dichotomy describes Ernesto Acosta's life almost perfectly. Acosta's early years were rife with pitfalls, from the death of his mother to the constant school problems. Even after his father was murdered, the streets became his refuge as an escape from his aunt's clutches. Ernesto found his calling early in life, willing to fight anyone, anywhere, and at any time. Why not, he was good at it, making sure who ever he fought never wanted to fight him again. His second calling was his willingness to learn, to adapt; taking tutelage from the drug gangs that ravaged to nation. He quickly adapted to the brutality that the cartels unleashed on a daily basis, inflicting new and innovative acts of terror on Los Zenetas enemies while expanding the legend of Ernesto Acosta. Somewhere along the way the complications start to mount. Acosta soon finds himself caught up in a war that he neither started, nor wanted. His boss, Victor 'Casper' Guzman, head of Los Zenetas cartel, has ordered Acosta to avenge the murder of his nephew. This sets of a series of assassination's that soon reveals a picture that threatens to tear Los Zenetas apart, pitting Acosta against his boss. Adding more fuel to the fire, while the American DEA start to dismantle Los Zenetas top lieutenants one at a time and the Mexican government threatens to send in the Army to stop the Cartel's violent outburst, Acosta discovers his boss might be responsible for his father's murder.Of course this was very hard for Acosta to fathom, but the clues keep mounting. With a new reality hitting Acosta squarely in the face in the form of a failed assassination attempt, he sets off on a quest to bring down Los Zenetas by any means necessary. Starting with the murder of Felix 'Tiny' Reyes, head of the Tijuana drug Cartel and Cesar Castro, head of the Gulf Cartel, Acosta exacts his revenge. His piece de resistance comes in the form of an assassination attempt on President Rivera, The President of Mexico. Tearing apart the fabric of society on both sides of the border has finally caught up with Los Zenetas and its boss, Casper. The Nation of Mexico comes to grips with the threat at its doorstep and the Los Zenetas Cartel becomes public enemy number 1. As the walls close in Acosta confronts Casper and his sister, Alicia. The final confrontation leads to a multitude of revelations that end in a blaze of gunfire. Will Ernesto Acosta survive or will he be just another criminal whose time ran out?
