The Spanish Archives of Simancas, the Manuscripts of the Bibliotheque Impériale, and the Cottonian and H arleian collections of mss. In the British Museum, have afi'orded information of high and varied interest for the biography of Jeanne d'albret; and have thrown important lights on the political history of the times. The Author has, also, made diligent research in the works of the historians of France and Spain contem porary with the Queen of Navarre.
