This book deals with lifetime contracts, a group of contracts which generally have the most important role to play in people's daily lives and existence. These contracts establish social long-term relations which, with regard to certain periods of the lifetime of individuals, provide essential goods, services, as well as labor and income opportunities for self-realization and participation. The book questions the general principles of European contract law built onto the classical model of sales contracts. It argues that a general life time contract should be integrated into the codification of modern private law, and it proposes a set of principles governing such social long-term relations. Divided in five parts (Introduction; Lifetime in Contract Law; Labor Contracts; Consumer Credit Contracts; and Residential Tenancy Contracts), the book is the result of annual discussion meetings that took place between 2006-2013. Twenty-one members of the EuSoCo.eu research group from eleven countries participated in a multi-cultural project to provide a contractual model for the credit and service economy of the 21st century.

"In the book Life time contracts : social long-term contracts in labour, tenancy and consumer credit law (Eleven, 2014), EuSoCo laid out sixteen principles of life time contracts to apply whenever individuals seek to form or continue such social long-term relationships. In this book, we expand thereon, making the principles more accessible. As society depends on individuals being able to meet certain basic necessities, the need to elaborate common principles to preserve and protect life time contracts remains crucial. [This book expands] on the way these principles can be used to interpret and inform general contract law, with a special emphasis on employment, consumer credit, and residential tenancy contracts. [Contributors] pay particular attention to those areas affected by the digital economy and by regulatory measures introduced in response to the economic crisis and recession."--

We analyze optimal consumption in the life cycle model by introducing life and pension insurance contracts. The model contains a credit market with biometric risk, and market risk via risky securities. This idealized framework enables us to clarify important aspects life insurance and pension contracts. We find optimal pension plans and life insurance contracts where the benefits are state dependent. We compare these solutions both to the ones of standard actuarial theory, and to policies offered in practice. Implications of this include what role the insurance industry may play to improve welfare. The relationship between substitution of consumption and risk aversion is highlighted in the presence of a consumption puzzle. One problem related portfolio choice is discussed - the horizon problem. Finally, we present some comments on longevity risk and cohort risk.

Consumer Vulnerability And Welfare In Mortgage Contracts written by Irina Domurath and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-30 with Law categories.

This book advocates a new way of thinking about mortgage contracts. This claim is based on the assumption that we currently live in a political economy in which consumer debt fulfils a social function. In the field of housing this is evidenced by the expansion of mortgage credit through which consumers are to purchase residential property as a means of social inclusion and personal welfare. It is suggested that contract law needs to adjust to this new social function in order to avoid welfare losses in terms of default, over-indebtedness, and possibly eviction. To this end, this book analyses theoretical contract law frameworks and makes concrete proposals for contract law in the EU legal order.

Handbook Of Utility Theory written by Salvador Barbera and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-03-31 with Business & Economics categories.

The standard rationality hypothesis is that behaviour can be represented as the maximization of a suitably restricted utility function. This hypothesis lies at the heart of a large body of recent work in economics, of course, but also in political science, ethics, and other major branches of the social sciences. Though this hypothesis of utility maximization deserves our continued respect, finding further refinements and developing new critiques remain areas of active research. In fact, many fundamental conceptual problems remain unsettled. Where others have been resolved, their resolutions may be too recent to have achieved widespread understanding among social scientists. Last but not least, a growing number of papers attempt to challenge the rationality hypothesis head on, at least in its more orthodox formulation. The main purpose of this Handbook is to make more widely available some recent developments in the area. Yet we are well aware that the final chapter of a handbook like this can never be written as long as the area of research remains active, as is certainly the case with utility theory. The editors originally selected a list of topics that seemed ripe enough at the time that the book was planned. Then they invited contributions from researchers whose work had come to their attention. So the list of topics and contributors is largely the editors' responsibility, although some potential con tributors did decline our invitation. Each chapter has also been refereed, and often significantly revised in the light of the referees' remarks.
