DescriptionDissociative Identity Disorder (DID, formerly Multiple Personality Disorder or MPD) is the separation of self which sometimes occurs following extreme child abuse trauma. These selves are referred to as alters. Self harm often accompanies this disorder as a coping mechanism. This book is a collection of poetry written by alters the author created. Mickey, Soda, BJ, and Daniel, affectionately referred to as, "The Brothers," share the author's journey into wholeness. The Brothers were the most active and verbal of the alters. Their mantra, "The more silent I am, the more it is I have to say," gives light to the author's quiet shyness as a youth and young adult. They did have a lot to say, and it is voiced here in "Like Shattered Glass." About the AuthorColleen Lewis, developed Dissociative Identity Disorder at a very young age. She engaged in self-harm, mostly cutting, for 38 years. She had many alters, but recently integrated with them, thus becoming one. She refers to her DID system as "Brothers and Others." Her alters include both male and female personalities. Her alters helped her survive for nearly half a century. Through her writing, Colleen hopes to increase awareness and understanding of Dissociative Identity Disorder and self-harm and remove the stigma attached to them. Born in Rochester, New York, she now lives in Colorado in the United States.

...the autopsy of a human soul No parent should have to bury a child. It is the greatest loss a human being can experience. And it happens all too often. The toll that such a loss exacts is terrible. Most marriages don't survive. Mimi's didn't. After nine years, she remains in therapy. There is no end in sight. And that is but half the story, half the tragedy. The birth of her first child, Jessie Marie, in 1996 changed Mimi's life forever. Hers had been a hard road and Jessie's arrival brought sunshine and blue skies to a life that had too often been cloudy and grey. More than ever before, the future looked bright! For a while... On Halloween night of 2003, everything changed. Mimi stood and watched helplessly as the doctors fought desperately to hold on to Jessie. But it was too little; it was too late. Jessie quietly slipped away at 1:21am. She was gone. So was the sunshine. But suffocating grief could not stifle Michelle's need to know: WHY? And the answers just weren't coming. Mimi began to dig, and eventually she learned the appalling truth: Jessie's doctors hadn't done what they were asked to do, and they'd lied about it. Jessie was dead because of negligence, and incompetence. And nobody would be held accountable. Along with hundreds of other parents, California's MICRA law would keep Mimi from having her day in court. Her epic struggle to expose the injustice of MICRA would win Mimi the CAOC's "Consumer Advocate of the Year" award (the Erin Brockovich Award) for 2005. The poetry of Like Shattered Glass tells a story. It is a hearts-eye-view of the anguish and torture that a mother endures. If you have experienced such a loss, this book will show you that someone else really does understand. Like Shattered Glass is nothing less than the autopsy of a human soul.

This beautiful and diverse collection of poems touches the reader's very soul. Inspired by the loss of a loved one, Maudy de Vreij put pen to paper and started writing down the words she couldn't speak. As she explains, to her, poems are like lyrics without the music and she felt the urge to write down the songs she couldn't find. These poems will bring the reader a laugh, a tear, and every other feeling associated with grief. Bron: Flaptekst, uitgeversinformatie.

This is a book of poetry, the second in the Glass series, emphasizing the beauty and the fire in love, lust, passion, via a collection of poems worded raw or clever, rhyme or free verse, serious or humorous, and mostly a mix of all. There is nothing trite to it, there is nothing rude to it, there is nothing innocent to it. There is everything that could burn a hole in your heart to it.
