Implication, Readers' Resources, and Thomas Gray's Pindaric Odes presents an account of "the Poets' Secret," the quite belated, historically recent, discovery by scholars and critics of something many poets have recognized and employed for ages: the sense expressed by allusively parallel parts within a text--thus expressed intratextually rather than only intertextually. Inferential perception of the implicit sense produced logically and linguistically--by enthymemes, implicatures, and other intratextual features, as well as intertextual ones--can be indispensable for readers' comprehension of literary as well as other texts, especially their difficult passages. Implication, Readers' Resources, and Thomas Gray's Pindaric Odes addresses these elusive matters as they have historically been posed by Thomas Gray's Pindaric odes of 1757, and mainly the first of them, "The Progress of Poesy," a poem that readers have more or less knowledgeably struggled to understand from the outset. The process of disclosing that ode's sense can be aided by new further reference to Paradise Lost, in the context of Gray's largely unpublished Commonplace Book, with its extensive, little-studied, and very pertinent use of Plato and Locke.

This important book presents the proceedings of the conference “Neutrinos and Implications for Physics Beyond the Standard Model”, put on by the Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics, State University of New York at Stony Brook. This volume contains edited contributions from the speakers at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "DNA Repair Mechanisms and Their Biological Implications in Mammalian Cells" held October 1-6, 1988, at the Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud, Fontevraud France. The meeting was dedicated to Paul Howard-Flanders (Yale University, New Haven, CT. , 1919-1988), whose seminal con tributions to the DNA repair field include the cO-discovery of the excision repair pathway, the elucidation of post-repli cation repair in E. coli, the isolation of the lexA and recC mutants, and his extensive work on the enzymology of RecA. A plethora of recent developments in DNA repair mechan isms and related processes in mammalian cells have advanced our understanding of this field in a number of different areas and have given new emphasis to the ways these systems both resemble DNA repair processes in other groups of organisms in some respects yet are strikingly different from them in others. Within the past decade there have been a number of international conferences on DNA damage and repair mechanisms but none has been focused on these processes in mammalian cells.

Cancer cells can change and adapt, especially within the host environment; a phenomenon known as cancer plasticity. Although the "greenhouse effect" and "global climate change" have been the subjects of scientific scrutiny for many decades, only recently have they received widespread public attention. Two major events helped generate this attention. First, in 1990 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published its findings on the science, impacts and policy implications of climate change. The findings of the IPCC, prepared and reviewed extensively by the world's leading experts in the field, confirmed that the increasing atmospheric concentrations of "greenhouse" gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and the chlorofluorocarbons, could cause the world to warm and sea level to rise. Second, in 1992 the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) inRio de Janeiro focussed the attention of the world's national governments, as well as organisations and individuals outside the governments, on the threat of global climate change. The Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC), signed by nations at UNCED, reflects both the concern about the effects of climate change and the urgent need for action to prevent or reduce its potential impacts, particularly with respect to the vulnerable developing countries of the world. Bangladesh ratified the FCCC on 15 April 1994. The countries that have signed and ratified the FCCC are obligated to report to the Conference of the Parties (CoP) to the Convention on a number of inter related issues.
