Por isso, o livro está organizado para considerar, em primeiro lugar, a relação entre "práticas discurso e ensino", em segundo, entre "literatura e ensino" e, por fim, entre "prática pedagógica e legislação educacional", cumprindo, assim, de forma tão significativa, áreas ou perspectivas que transcendem em muito as estreitas visões da prescrição lingüística. O livro “Educação de Jovens e Adultos: Teoria, Práticas e Políticas” tem por objetivo a discussão de princípios teóricos de prática pedagógica, de formação de educadores e de políticas públicas nessa área do conhecimento. Trata-se de um processo de busca de construção de uma identidade teórica para a educação de jovens e adultos cujo princípio pedagógico fundamental é o da incorporação da cultura e da realidade vivencial dos educandos como conteúdo ou ponto de partida da prática educativa. Impõe-se tematizar as relações entre pensamento e linguagem, entre pensamento e cultura, entre cultura oral e cultura escrita e entre conceitos espontâneos e conceitos científicos. E de pensar na perspectiva metodológica da resolução de problemas, o que exige pensar a formação de um professor epistemologicamente curioso como nos ensina Paulo Freire. Desse modo, o livro é de interesse para a formação inicial de professores, para docentes que ensinam na EJA e para profissionais das redes de ensino envolvidos com orientação técnico-pedagógica e formação inicial ou continuada de educadores.

Until the 1960s, maths was studied as an academic subject in a desire to have more mathematicians. The current trend, however, has moved away from viewing maths as a purely intellectual endeavour and towards developing a more mathematically competent workforce and citizenry. This trend has seen a large increase in the number of maths schemes being produced by the major educational publishers, which attempt to make maths easier and more approachable by using language instead of symbols. So why do so many children still fail at maths? The author contends that to understand this, teachers need to analyze and evaluate the maths textbooks they are currently using.
