La scuola italiana vede una sempre maggior presenza di bambini stranieri, che pur dimostrando buone competenze comunicative, evidenziano delle difficoltà nello studio delle singole materie, a causa delle caratteristiche della lingua disciplinare: lessico specialistico, con termini usati in accezioni diverse dal linguaggio comune; strutture morfosintattiche peculiari come, ad esempio, forme verbali scarsamente utilizzate nella vita di tutti i giorni; un richiamo a un corpus di conoscenze di base pregresse che nell’alunno di recente immigrazione non possono essere date per scontate. Il volume presenta una serie di attività di facilitazione allo studio della matematica e delle scienze per la scuola primaria, in particolar modo per le classi quarta e quinta. Le attività facilitanti e i testi ad alta comprensibilità, che veicolano in una forma accessibile e semplice le informazioni chiave della disciplina e che favoriscono un’acquisizione stabile delle strategie di lettura, sono pensati per compensare una competenza linguistica ancora incompleta, stimolando l’attivazione di conoscenze implicite già possedute o la costruzione di nuove. Le proposte didattiche si suddividono in attività che possono essere svolte dagli alunni stranieri sia in classe, contemporaneamente alle lezioni tenute dall’insegnante per tutti, sia in momenti specificamente dedicati all’intervento sull’allievo straniero in laboratorio o facendo ricorso a tecniche di peer tutoring.
