A Story About Listening to God The Listening Project tells the true story of a woman who decides to make an unusual and quirky deal with God to become a better listener. What starts out as a step-by-step business model approach to learn about listening to the Divine voice within, soon turns into a far more personal and unexpected journey of loss, grief, healing, and love. An inspiring and at times irreverent book, The Listening Project makes you laugh, cry, and think about the many opportunities we have to hear God in our daily lives, especially when life gives us hurdles too big to jump on our own. As the author shares her experiences and lessons learned, readers are encouraged to explore their own unique spiritual approach to life, the ways they listen to God, and the inherent human challenges and rewards of hearing and following Divine guidance.

Listening, Belonging, and Memory puts connected listening at the center of current debates around whose voices might be listened to, who by, and why. Arguing that listening has to be understood in relation to the self, nation, age, witnessing, and memory, it uses examples from digital storytelling, listening projects, and critical media analysis to highlight connections between listening and power. It centers on voices, stories, and silence, how they interweave, and are activated, maneuvered, reconfigured, and denied. It focuses on the small, microengagements that crouch within the superstructures of violent border control and the censorious policing of sonic citizenry, identifying cracks in the reshuffling of histories and hierarchies that connected listening affords.

Listening with the Heart: A Guide for Compassionate Listening is a concise, practical, and timeless approach to reconciliation between individuals and communities in conflict. This guidebook draws from practical applications and spiritual principles to provide myriad community applications, insights, techniques, and principles to help Compassionate Listening practitioners of all experience levels improve their relationships, enrich their internal lives, and contribute to peaceful solutions in a world where they are sorely needed. Listening with the Heart teaches how listening deeply to ourselves, to one another, and to our heart assists us in hearing the essential human qualities underneath the words, rhetoric, and strongly held positions. The appendix is rich with exercises on how to develop skills for Compassionate Listening, a practice based on the principle that hearing each other's story reveals unhealed wounds and allows for mutual compassion and understanding, bridging the ineffable with the practicalities of relationships. When these skills are applied, they offer the opportunity to heal most of our pressing issues of the day. This book is an ideal companion piece for Practicing the Art of Compassionate Listening by Andrea Cohen, Leah Green, and Susan Partnow, which offers an introductory-level curriculum and practical how-to guide for practicing Compassionate Listening. This excellent supplement to the CL curriculum brings both psychological and spiritual resources together in a deeply practical approach to mediation and conflict resolution. Listening skills, and the perspective gained through careful listening, are more important in congregations than ever. Many factors make attentive listening a significant contributor to healthy congregations. As we enter into a post-Christendom culture, the people coming into congregations, as well as the people in the wider community, are less likely to be operating from a shared set of assumptions. With world-wide migration reshaping our communities and congregations, diverse perspectives coming from varied cultural backgrounds are also more common. The breakdown of many support structures in society has created profound pastoral care needs, making listening increasingly significant for both ministers and lay leaders. Polarization over so many issues and the increasing emphasis on story-telling in the journey of faith are two additional reasons why listening matters today. Careful and loving listening nurtures care, connection and depth, which contribute to congregational life and health. Listening to God is another aspect of listening which is gaining increased attention today. Many congregational leaders have become weary of church as a business and are looking for authentic experiences of God’s guidance. Congregations are increasingly engaging in communal discernment. Many listening skills used in human interactions are also building blocks for listening to God.

Listening For Democracy written by Andrew Dobson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Although much prized in daily conversation, good listening has been almost completely ignored in that form of political conversation we know as democracy. This book examines the reasons why so little attention has been paid to the listening aspect of democratic conversation, explores the role that listening might play in democracy, and outlines some institutional changes that could be made to make listening more central to democratic processes. The focus on listening amounts to a reorientation of democratic theory and practice, providing novel perspectives on enduring themes in democracy such as recognition, representation, power and legitimacy—as well as some new ones, such as silence. Eschewing the pessimism of the 'realist' turn in democratic theory, the book shows how attention to listening can breathe life into the democratic project and help us to realise some of its objectives. Drawing on practical examples and multidisciplinary sources, the book shows how listening should be at the heart or representative and deliberative democracy rather than peripheral to them. It develops a notion of dialogic democracy based on structured, 'apophatic', listening, and meets the challenge of showing how this could be incorporated in parliamentary democracies. What should we be listening out for? This book addresses the question of political noise and uses the idea of recognition to develop an account of politics that takes us beyond the Aristotelian speaking being towards a Deweyan notion of the 'event' around which publics coalesce.
