Chapter 2 focuses on the definition and key principles of the PLA approach and takes a short glimpse at the history of its evolution. It outlines some of the problems and challenges of using the PLA methodology, and concludes with a review of some of the questions commonly asked about participatory appraisals. Preparations necessary before carrying out a fieldwork are discussed in chapter 3. Chapter 4 examines 17 PLA methods that can be utilized for participatory assessment, each of which have specific examples of application in the field. Chapter 5 describes documentation in the field, analysis of data gathered, and preparation of synthesis reports. The final chapter explores how PLA was used in Zambia to generate an adolescent reproductive health intervention.
