This volume offers interdisciplinary perspectives on discourses in one national context of post-communist transformation. Proposing a macro-micro approach to discourse analysis and transformation, it examines a spectrum of topics including Polish history, with its ‘interpreters’; changes in political bodies and the media, policies of the Catholic Church and the Institute of National Remembrance; xenophobia and anti-Semitism, with the emergence of unemployment and homelessness; experiences of new gender relations and migrations. Der vorliegende Band hat zum Ziel, die religiös-kulturellen Dimensionen des Transfers zwischen der katholischen Kirche in Polen und in Deutschland einer kritischen Prüfung zu unterziehen und dabei über die tradierten Grenzen des deutsch-polnischen Dialogs hinauszugehen. In der Geschichte des Zusammenlebens von polnischen und deutschen Katholiken bestätigt sich die These, dass die in ihren Anschauungen und Traditionen verschiedenen Völker eben nicht nur nebeneinander, sondern auch miteinander gelebt haben. Während sich frühere Untersuchungen vor allem auf das konzentrierten, was die deutschen und polnischen Katholiken trennte, beschäftigen sich neuere wissenschaftliche Abhandlungen - auch die Beiträge in diesem Band - eher mit Interaktion und Kooperation. Der vorliegende Band ist in fünf unterschiedliche Kulturtransferprozesse widerspiegelnde Schwerpunkte gegliedert, wobei verschiedene Transfervariationen hier vielfältig überlappen und ineinanderfließen. Analysiert werden die sich auf den Kontrast zwischen Selbst- und Fremdbild beziehenden und konfessionell "gefärbten" Identifikationsmöglichkeiten, die Wirkung von Personen in der Rolle der Kulturvermittler, kulturelle Verflechtungen und Blockierungen kultureller Elemente bei verschiedenen Gruppen (von Jugendlichen oder Frauen über Vertriebenenverbände bis zu Theologen), transnationale Beispiele der Kooperation im kirchlichen Bereich sowie Beispiele der kulturellen Transferprozesse auf dem Gebiet der Literatur und des Zeitungswesens.

And so, over the centuries, the Church has faced crises caused by schisms, divisions, unsuitable people in ecclesiastical offices, as well as challenges posed by the surrounding world, political systems and conflicts of human origin. Owing to this publication, the reader will be able to learn about various types of crises and challenges in order to draw conclusions from them, to appreciate the history of the Church through a better knowledge thereof, and all this in order to create a better future. The subject of the book concerns crises and challenges during various periods in the history of the Church up until modern times, including the crisis caused by the Second World War or communism in Central and Eastern Europe.
