Este libro analiza ciertos libros y autores que han expresado distintos tipos de imposibilidades filosóficas, sociales y literarias, intentando mediante ellos un acercamiento a las voces que desaparecen continuamente de la literatura. Toda literatura constituye aquí una relación paradójica entre lo imposible y lo posible: la escritura. Capturar la realidad de una doble caída de las literaturas (en lo imposible y en lo posible) es la crucial tarea de estas líneas. Para ello hemos construido un panorama histórico de estas imposibilidades, en base al cual una teoría se despliega. Se analiza luego cómo la misma se manifiesta en dos cosos paradigmáticos de las literaturas castellana y portuguesa: Borges y Pessoa. La literatura es aquí pensada como una relación entre la muerte y la escritura, constituyendo esta última el fruto de un despertar, una caída del no ser en el ser, construida sobre una imposibilidad, sobre un sueño. Se ha trazado asimismo una relación entre la presencia del canon y la ausencia de las literaturas imposibles. A partir de allí se muestra la relación imposible / fracaso y la dialéctica entre potencia y acto, constituyendo este libro una tentativa de resaltar la potencialidad poética por sobre su relación efectiva. El autor se ha propuesto aquí pensar a aquellos en la penumbra y a los que la pensaron; reflexionar sobre el hacerse de una obra y su tragedia, la de aquellas ausencias que reclaman una presencia. Se ha buscado así explorar nuevas formas de lectura y nuevas formas de aprehender lo que está en juego en la literatura, mostrando la abrumadora presencia de lo imposible como ausencia constitutiva de la misma.

The genesis of Comparative Cultural Studies and Latin America stems from the contributors' conviction that, given its vitality and excellence, Latin American literature deserves a more prominent place in comparative literature publications, curricula, and disciplinary discussions. The editors introduce the volume by first arguing that there still exists, in some quarters, a lingering bias against literature written in Spanish and Portuguese. Secondly, the authors assert that by embracing Latin American literature and culture more enthusiastically, comparative literature would find itself reinvigorated, placed into productive discourse with a host of issues, languages, literatures, and cultures that have too long been paid scant academic attention. This Spanish-language anthology contains selections by 45 Latin-American authors. It is intended as a text for upper division Latin American literature survey courses. The anthology presumes a high level of linguistic command of Spanish, and it contains footnotes to allusions and cultural references, as well as words and phrases not found in standard bilingual dictionaries used in the US. Emphasis is on major 20th-century writers, while important works from colonial and 19th-century literature as also included. The diverse selections of Literature Hispanoamericana will enable students to have a more sustained exposure to major voices of Latin American literature than possible in anthologies built around fragments.
