Potential costars are numerous…. Call it romantic, or call it delusional (her friends do), but Lena rewrites her life story for every guy she meets. She chats up a lowly band-boy and suddenly she's Mrs. Indie. Flirts with a banker, and presto, she's got a house in the country and a golden retriever. Suddenly, she has the life she's always wanted, complete with a new circle of fabulous friends—much to the chagrin of her old circle of fabulous friends. He even encourages her to quit her job and follow her dream. Is this love or just another fantasy? And what's up next? Diamond ring or reality check? To find out, tune in to Live from New York, It's Lena Sharpe!

Russian Talk written by Nancy Ries and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with History categories.

As one of the first Western ethnographers working in Moscow, Nancy Ries became convinced that talk is one crucial way in which Russian identity is constructed and reproduced. Listening to the grim stories people used to characterize their lives during perestroika, and encountering the florid pessimism with which Muscovites described the unraveling of Soviet governance, Ries realized that these dire tales played a crucial role in fabricating a sense of shared experience and destiny. While many of the narratives aptly depicted the chaotic social and political events, they also promoted key images of "Russianness" and presented Russian society as an inescapable realm of injustice, absurdity, and suffering. At the height of perestroika in the early 1990s, Moscow residents commonly used the phrase "complete ruin" to refer to the disintegration of Russian society, encompassing in that phrase the escalation of crime, the disappearance of goods from stores, the fall of production, ecological catastrophes, ethnic violence in the Caucasus, the degradation of the arts, and the flood of pornography. Ries argues that such stories became a genre of folklore consistent in their lamenting, portentous tone and their dramatic, culturally poignant details.

Dictionary Of Multicultural Psychology written by Lena E. Hall and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-10-28 with Psychology categories.

"There appears to be a burgeoning lexicon of terms and concepts pertinent to multiculturalism. Unfortunately, this increase in the number of terms and concepts seems to be colliding with a decrease in a shared understanding of what they mean. A dictionary style volume for such terms seems an admirable and overdue quest." -William H. George, University of Washington This dictionary is an up-to-date volume that contains numerous references to relevant concepts and terms in the field of multicultural psychology. Professor Lena Hall has collected, studied, and analyzed a multitude of terms in her eleven years of teaching multicultural psychology, and she has gathered them together in this handy, accessible reference book. Key Features Definitions are written in concise language for easy comprehension. Standard dictionary format is familiar and convenient to use, making this book a handy reference for students and professionals alike who wish to clarify a term or broaden their knowledge on a topic. Relevant reference sources are included along with each entry, enabling students to do further reading on concepts they have learned. Dictionary entries are excellent starting points for stimulating class discussions and creative research and written assignments. The Dictionary of Multicultural Psychology is a highly useful resource for undergraduate psychology students. The book is recommended as a classroom supplement for courses in psychology and multiculturalism, as well as for professionals and graduate students working with multicultural populations for certification. Lena Hall is associate professor at Nova Southeastern University. She obtained her BS in Psychology from York University, her MA and MED from Columbia University, and her PhD in Counseling Psychology from University of Florida. She conducts seminars, presents papers, and teaches classes in multicultural psychology. She is presently involved in cross-cultural research on substance abuse. Her latest publication is Issues in Multicultural Psychology, a textbook for undergraduate students.

Transnational Cinematic And Popular Music Icons written by Aaron Lefkovitz and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-08 with Social Science categories.

Transnational Cinematic & Popular Music Icons: Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, & Queen Latifah, 1917-2017 centers twentieth and twenty-first century black-transnational stereotypes, celebrities, and symbols Lena Horne's, Dorothy Dandridge;s, and Queen Latifah’s transnational popular cultural struggles between domination and autonomy, with a particular emphasis on their films and popular music. Linking each performer to twentieth century U.S., African-American, and global gender histories and noting the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, class, and empire in their overlapping transnational biographies, Transnational Cinematic & Popular Music Icons: Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, & Queen Latifah, 1917-2017 connects Horne, Dandridge, and Latifah to each other and legacies of Hollywood stereotypes and popular music’s internationally-routed politics. Through a close reading of Horne's, Dandridge's, and Latifah’s films and popular music, the performers tie to historic black-transnational caricatures, from the “tragic mulatto” to Sapphire, Mammy, and Jezebel, and additional, non-white female performers, from Josephine Baker to Halle Berry, maneuvering within transnational popular culture industrial matrices and against white supremacist and hetero-patriarchal forces.

"For twenty-eight years, Pamela Paul has been keeping a diary that records the books she reads, rather than the life she leads. Or does it? Over time, it's become clear that this Book of Books, or Bob, as she calls him, tells a much bigger story. For Paul, as for many readers, books reflect her inner life--her fantasies and hopes, her dreams and ideas. And her life, in turn, influences which books she chooses, whether for solace or escape, diversion or self-reflection, information or entertainment. My Life with Bob isn't about what's in those books; it's about the relationship between books and readers"--
