The COVID-19 pandemic changed life as we know it. What began as temporary limitations to restrict the virus's spread turned into a year-long struggle to fight the disease. Health leaders and public officials imposed restrictions that impacted nearly every aspect of life. These restrictions included canceling in-person activities, working from home, completing school online, and losing livelihood through massive unemployment and businesses closing. The Church was not exempt from the impact of COVID-19 either. In many places, in-person gatherings were prohibited or severely limited. Pastors and church leaders learned new skills in providing online worship services and discipleship programs. Likely the most significant impact was the challenge to faith as people wrestled with facing life and death issues due to a microscopic organism. What people needed during this time was the wisdom and experience of a veteran follower of God. Someone who learned how to walk by faith during the most challenging seasons of life. That veteran of faith was David, the shepherd-king of ancient Israel. In Living the Psalms 23 Faith in a COVID-19 World, pastor Michael Black shares a series of messages from Psalms 23 that draw from King David's wisdom. David describes how his faith in God as his Divine Shepherd empowered him to face circumstances just as destructive as the pandemic. Take a journey with David through this familiar Psalm and learn from his wisdom. He will be our mentor-guide, modeling for us what it means to live a Psalms 23 faith even in the most dire circumstances we might face. Michael Black is a semi-retired pastor, teacher, husband, and father of three daughters who are married and grandfather to four grandchildren. His hobbies include writing, walking, woodworking, outdoor activities, and mystery movies. Mike has earned degrees from Indiana Wesleyan Seminary, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, and Asbury Theological Seminary. Mike and his wife Ruth live in Williamston, Michigan. His approach aids study groups, clergy seeking preaching background material, and persons wanting personal devotional reading. The book is filled with countless illustrations in its eight chapters. Chapter titles include: - The Good Shepherd - Finding God In The Narrows Of Life - God's Extravagance - The Final Dimensions Of Life Robert G. Tuttle, Asheville, North Carolina, holds degrees from Duke University and Duke Divinity School. He has served churches in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.

King David sinned. He stepped away from God. He hung out in the palace when kings go to battle. With idleness as his companion, his eyes wander and fixate on a beautiful woman. Lust takes over and he must have her as his own--the wife of another. Then after his folly, she announces her pregnancy to David. Sexual sin grows into schemes of murder. He places Uriah, Bathsheba's husband, in a battlefront position so he is killed. How could this happen? How could this same king write the Shepherd Psalm? He knew God intimately in his younger years as he tended sheep and followed God's voice to safe harbors. But, in a moment of passion, he exchanged spiritual training for fleeting moments of pleasure. Has that happened to you? Does Psalm 23 remind you of times when God lovingly nudged you closer to him? Do you long for more contentment but take detours away from God? Are there muddy streams and broken cisterns you need to sidestep? Do you veer from paths of righteousness and long for mountaintop experiences when stationed in life's dales and basins? How do you run to God for a reapplication of His soothing presence? Psalm 23 Bible Study, The Lord As My Shepherd, answers these questions. You'll discover how to stay clear of danger by remaining in your Shepherd's embrace. Author Betsy Wise focuses on Psalm 23's message line by line to reveal its meaning. To be precise, that the Shepherd/sheep connection is one continuous path of assurance--a path God wants to shepherd.

Confessions of a COVID-19 Survivor is written by Mildred L. Norwood-Fisher. It is the heartfelt story of the pain, suffering, fear, and anxiety that overwhelmed her when she found herself suddenly cast into the excruciating valley of COVID-19. While passing through the valley, she was overwhelmed but eventually rejoiced because of an unexpected victory. In the valley, there were many ups and downs. Many dark days and even darker nights. So many days all she had was her past because her present looked bleak, and it appeared that there would be no future beyond the valley, which within itself was a terrifying thought. Mildred felt trapped in the dark valley of despair. Many times, she felt as if there were no escaping the valley because the walls of the endless pathway were crushing in on her. The dryness in the valley had taken her breath away. She couldn’t breathe. Every attempt to do so was an act of manual labor. You will also walk with Mrs. Smith as she found herself trapped in the valley in total agony when her firstborn, her only son, Matthew, was tossed into the fiery furnace of COVID-19, left there to die, and that he did. Mrs. Smith found herself locked inside herself. You see, a parent is not supposed to bury her child, yet that was exactly what she was left to do, and there was no escaping that horrible reality. That day, time stopped, and she could not move beyond that even if she tried. You will witness a family that was moved by faith through fate to God’s faithfulness. This book unleashes the power of God, the manifestation of the Holy Spirit as the healing hands of God are revealed. I pray that this book will inspire, encourage, and bless you as I have truly attempted to give testimony to the faithfulness of our God, “How great is thou faithfulness?”
