In this landmark work, Richard Foster examines the 'streams of living water' - the six dimensions of faith and practice - that have defined Christian tradition around the world and down the centuries. In this inspiring book he looks at: - the Contemplative tradition - or the prayer-filled life - the Holiness tradition - or the virtuous life - the Charismatic tradition - or the Spirit-empowered life - the Social Justice tradition - or the compassionate life - the Evangelical tradition - or the word-centred life - the Incarnational tradition - or the sacramental life Foster's celebration of the spiritual life incorporates history's most significant Christian figures and movements and argues for a rich, well-rounded faith, free of constricting labels.

Irresistible interiors that capture the essence of seaside living. Everyone dreams of a house by the sea, and this book presents the best examples of homes for escaping to the serenity of the seaside. Beautifully photographed interiors, exteriors, gardens, and patios offer a peek into these appealing homes, including Martha Stewart’s Seal Harbor, Maine, residence, Donna Karan’s Zen-like East Hampton retreat, Tommy Hilfiger’s Pop art–inspired Miami house, and Giorgio Armani’s Antigua getaway. Such top designers as Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Steven Gambrel, and Ken Fulk have decorated these lovely and inspiring homes—in quintessential seaside communities, including Block Island, Harbor Island, Malibu, and Martha’s Vineyard. A seaside house is a place to unwind in a relaxed setting—white floorboards, whimsical nautical touches, pastel tones, and vivid colors. Indoor-outdoor living is the norm. Yet it is also a place to entertain friends and family in style and can express a range of chic decorating and design tastes. From clean, modern beach houses to traditional-style cottages, these breathtaking interiors—presented by a team known for style and taste—will inspire homeowners, designers, and anyone who loves a water view.

Living with Water: Peoples, Lives and Livelihoods in Asia and Beyond examines the relation between water and human history through the prism of archaeology, ethnography, history, maritime anthropology, literature, sociology and musicology. Moving away from traditional themes of maritime history such as oceanic trade, migration, slavery, piracy, shipping and port-to-port linkages--and from the generic themes of maritime contacts and market exchanges, of cultural contacts and technology transfers, and of collaboration versus military conflict--the volume focusses instead on human-water interaction in history. We present different types of archives facilitating a history of water with the aim of widening the scope of water histories. Water histories have the potential of bringing remote, marginal histories to the centre of historical research. As Harlaftis (2010) and Grafe (2011) have noted, such histories provide atool for linking the local and the regional with the global, and also provide the possibility of comparing the various scales or levels of water's interaction and intervention with peoples' lives. The spatial extent of the volume is Russia, Bangladesh, India (Assam, Bengal, the Tamil country) and the Philippines.
