There is no way to begin without telling you the saddest part of the story. It's a love story, and it begins with a positive pregnancy test. But, it doesn't end with a baby."Everything was right on schedule in Brooke Taylor's meticulously planned world. She had checked off every box-the husband, the house, the dogs, the graduate degree, the (modest) savings account-and now, positive pregnancy test in hand, she had checked the most anticipated box of all. As a young couple with every dream seemingly within their grasp, the potential for looming tragedy wasn't even on their radar. The death of a child? That was an unfathomable abstraction, a terrible tragedy that could only happen to someone else. And then, in one fateful moment, the unimaginable became their reality. After 34 weeks of a textbook, uneventful pregnancy while expecting their first daughter, Eliza, in 2010, Brooke and her husband David were shocked when she went into labor weeks before her due date-and then absolutely blindsided when they arrived at the hospital only to be told that their beloved "Baby Duck" no longer had a heartbeat. This is the story of what comes next: of learning to live with a broken heart that keeps on beating, of picking up the pieces amidst the devastation of earth-shattering grief, and of finding a way to love life again-even when nothing goes according to plan. This is the story of surviving the death of a child, navigating the complexities of life after pregnancy loss, and discovering that grief can somehow become a part of our life without overtaking it completely.Unimaginable: Life after baby loss examines what it means to be a parent bereaved through stillbirth, and traces one mother's path back to a hopeful life.

This is the book that Tawna Righter never wanted to write. But as she recovered after two profound tragedies, she realized that there were men, women, and children who had suffered this same heartbreak-that of a murder-suicide of friends, loved ones, fellow students and co-workers-yet had no printed guide from which they could derive support, information, and resources. Living With the Unimaginable; Life in the Aftermath of Murder-Suicide is Tawna Righter's answer to this need. In 1990, her best friend's husband killed his wife and then himself, leaving behind small children and friends who were confused and distraught. How could this happen? The author could not imagine such an act. And yet, eight years later, her own son killed his girlfriend and then himself. Struggling with profound grief, Righter followed a path toward recovery, a path culminating with this supportive, compassionate, and valuable guide. Each section in this book acts as a support mechanism, addressing the myriad emotions-from anger to loss-that survivors inevitably experience. From the nightmare of the tragic event to the quest to understand why; from learning to live with the grief to providing comfort to the survivors, everything is explained through Righter's own experiences and those of the people she interviews. There is nothing lightweight about her approach-she tackles the hard issues head-on-and yet readers find hope and compassion, and they soon understand that life goes on, albeit in a different and newly defined way.

How can we prepare for a future that we cannot predict, let alone control? How do we lead our organizations in this real-time world? The rate of change is accelerating, the future is increasingly unpredictable, and we're overwhelmed with mind-boggling complexity. We have less and less time to think, less and less time to get in sync with what's happening. We cannot trust conventional wisdom to guide us. We must resolve many long-standing paradoxes between long or short-term thinking, expedient or ethical choices, the individual or the collective. We must be prepared for whatever emerges. Fortunately, we are becoming less competitive and more aligned in generating creative solutions to the world's intractable problems. The Internet and social media allow for unprecedented levels of collaboration and mutual understanding. As the real-time world emerges around us, we can see the pluralistic nature of human society. Once again, we are reminded that human conversation is essential for our success and that anything is possible when we work together.LIVING IN A REAL-TIME WORLD explores six conversational capabilities that we can cultivate to navigate uncertainty and learn what we need to know when we need to know it. More art than science, these innate capabilities tune the way we experience our circumstances, our relationships, our past, our present, and our future. A worthwhile read for anyone interested in understanding what is happening today, preparing for an uncertain future, and living in a positive relationship with change.

Mechademia 10 written by Frenchy Lunning and has been published by U of Minnesota Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-20 with Art categories.

Mechademia 10 revolves around a maelstrom of events: the devastation of 3/11—the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear reactor crises—and the ongoing environmental disasters that have recently overtaken Japan. Because anime and manga have long proposed (and illustrated) alternative worlds—some created after catastrophes—it is fitting that this volume should consider this propensity for “world renewal.” Individual essays range widely, from a poetic and personal reflection on the ritual of tôrô nagashi (the lighting of floating paper lanterns that has traditionally commemorated souls lost in great public cataclysms, such as war) to a study of the various counterfactual histories written about the historical figure of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a former peasant farmer who became a military dictator of feudal Japan. The book also includes an original manga, Nanohana, from the popular artist Hagio Moto, who is quoted as saying: “I want to think together with everyone else about Fukushima and Chernobyl, about the future of the Earth, about the future of humankind, and to keep thinking moving forward.”

Scm Core Text Christian Doctrine written by Mike Higton and has been published by SCM Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-25 with Religion categories.

The SCM Core Text: Christian Doctrine offers an up-to-date, accessible introduction to one of the core subjects of theology. Written for second and third-year university students, it shows that Christian Doctrine is not a series of impossible claims to be clung to with blind faith. Mike Higton argues that it is, rather, a set of claims that emerge in the midst of Christian life, as Christian communities try to make enough sense of their lives and of their world to allow them to carry on. Christian communities have made sense of their own life, and the life of the wider world in which they are set, as life created by God to share in God's own life. They have seen themselves and their world as laid hold of God's life in Jesus of Nazareth, and as having the Spirit of God's own life actively at work within them. This book explores these and other central Christian doctrines, and in each case, shows how the doctrine makes sense, and how it is woven into Christian life. It will help readers to see what sense it might make to say the things that Christian doctrine says, and how that doctrine might affect the way that one looks at everything: the natural world, gossip, culture, speaking in tongues, politics, dieting, human freedom, love, High Noon, justice, computers, racism, the novels of Jane Austin, parenthood, death and fashion.

Unimaginable Bodies written by Anna Catherine Hickey-Moody and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-01-01 with Education categories.

Unimaginable Bodies radically resituates academic discussions of intellectual disability. Through building relationships between philosophy, cultural studies and communities of integrated dance theatre practice, Anna Hickey-Moody argues that dance theatre devised with and performed by young people with and without intellectual disability, can reframe the ways in which bodies with intellectual disability are known. This proposition is considered in terms of classic philosophical ideas of how we think the mind and body, as Hickey-Moody argues that dance theatre performed by young people with and without intellectual disability creates a context in which the intellectually disabled body is understood in terms other than those that pre-suppose a Cartesian mind-body dualism. Taking up the writings of Spinoza and Deleuze and Guattari, Hickey-Moody critiques aspects of medical discourses of intellectual disability, arguing that Cartesian methods for thinking about the body are recreated within these discourses. Further, she shows that Cartesian ways of conceiving corporeality can be traced through select studies of the social construction of intellectual disability. The argument for theorising corporeality and embodied knowledge that Hickey-Moody constructs is a philosophical interpretation of the processes of knowledge production and subjectification that occur in integrated dance theatre. Knowledge produced within integrated dance theatre is translated into thought in order to explore the affective nature of performance texts. This book is essential reading for those interested in theories of embodiment, disability studies and dance.
