Now in its second printing, this modest work is an anthology of spiritual advice given by various of the nineteenth-century teachers of Optina Monastery in central Russia, organized thematically under headings such as spiritual warfare, the love of neighbor, faith, the will of God, the education of children, the commandments of God, the path of salvation, etc. Each piece of advice varies in length from a single sentence to a full paragraph. Pithy, immediately accessible, and universally applicable, these counsels resemble the sayings of the ancient Desert Fathers. Appropriate both for prolonged study and for daily devotional reading.

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship [Him] in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24).In John 4:23-24, Jesus talked about true worshippers. This implies that there also were false worshippers, as is the case even now. Are you the kind of worshipper that the Father seeks?“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves” (2 Corinthians 13:5, NIV). Every worshipper needs to do this always; this is where this book comes in handy.“Am I a hypocrite? Am I not?” you might already be quizzing yourself. You do not need to wonder anymore, for the answer is just pages away.

How can we deal with our Inner hypocrisy as human beings who claim to follow God but often don't live according to his commands and teachings? This is a question we should ask ourselves, Are we living a Hypocrite life or are we right with God? Hypocrisy is among the greatest sins of Christians all throughout the ages. It has led many astray. "The leaven of hypocrisy" can soon infect an entire church. The church at Laodicea thought that things were going well. They said, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need for anything." But the Lord's perspective was, "You do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked" (Rev. 3:17)! You can almost see the religious types over in the corner as this is read, feeling very smug and self-righteous, and thinking "We don't hate God; we're not full of murder and strife and wickedness and evil schemes." It's this kind of person who sometimes gives Christianity a very bad name. Due to hypocrisy, many unbelievers are turned off to Christianity, thinking that we are no different to others.Sadly, hypocrisy isn't just found among members of the Church, but also among its leaders. We have all been hypocrites at some time of our lives. In fact, this sin is a struggle for many of us. Now, here's the hope that we all have: Hypocrisy, like any sin, can be overcome. You may not successfully eliminate it from your life overnight, but the important thing is that you are struggling against it. As long as you are putting an effort in eliminating hypocrisy in your life even little by little, God can see your heart and will commend you for that. He is more than willing to help you overcome hypocrisy and live a genuine and blessed life. Just pray and ask for His help. No one's perfect but we must aim for perfection (Matthew 5:48). That's how high God has set the standard that we all should live by. I believe that with this newly revised edition "The Leaven Of Hypocrisy" you'll have a clearer picture on what Hypocrisy is all about and why God shuns it, And by having this fresh insight, you will have a better idea on how to overcome this.

Do As I Say Not As I Do written by Peter Schweizer and has been published by Anchor this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-10-10 with Political Science categories.

“I don’t own a single share of stock.” —Michael Moore Members of the liberal left exude an air of moral certitude. They pride themselves on being selflessly committed to the highest ideals and seem particularly confident of the purity of their motives and the evil nature of their opponents. To correct economic and social injustice, liberals support a whole litany of policies and principles: progressive taxes, affirmative action, greater regulation of corporations, raising the inheritance tax, strict environmental regulations, children’s rights, consumer rights, and much, much more. But do they actually live by these beliefs? Peter Schweizer decided to investigate in depth the private lives of some prominent liberals: politicians like the Clintons, Nancy Pelosi, the Kennedys, and Ralph Nader; commentators like Michael Moore, Al Franken, Noam Chomsky, and Cornel West; entertainers and philanthropists like Barbra Streisand and George Soros. Using everything from real estate transactions, IRS records, court depositions, and their own public statements, he sought to examine whether they really live by the principles they so confidently advocate. What he found was a long list of glaring contradictions. Michael Moore denounces oil and defense contractors as war profiteers. He also claims to have no stock portfolio, yet he owns shares in Halliburton, Boeing, and Honeywell and does his postproduction film work in Canada to avoid paying union wages in the United States. Noam Chomsky opposes the very concept of private property and calls the Pentagon “the worst institution in human history,” yet he and his wife have made millions of dollars in contract work for the Department of Defense and own two luxurious homes. Barbra Streisand prides herself as an environmental activist, yet she owns shares in a notorious strip-mining company. Hillary Clinton supports the right of thirteen-year-old girls to have abortions without parental consent, yet she forbade thirteen-year-old Chelsea to pierce her ears and enrolled her in a school that would not distribute condoms to minors. Nancy Pelosi received the 2002 Cesar Chavez Award from the United Farm Workers, yet she and her husband own a Napa Valley vineyard that uses nonunion labor. Schweizer’s conclusion is simple: liberalism in the end forces its adherents to become hypocrites. They adopt one pose in public, but when it comes to what matters most in their own lives—their property, their privacy, and their children—they jettison their liberal principles and embrace conservative ones. Schweizer thus exposes the contradiction at the core of liberalism: if these ideas don’t work for the very individuals who promote them, how can they work for the rest of us?

Have you ever arrived at church feeling so stressed out that you thought to yourself, "I can't face these people"-and your strongest wish was to rush back home and dive into bed? What on earth is happening here? How has church become a place where we must leave our "real selves" at the door-and pick them up later when we leave, more burdened than ever with loneliness, exhaustion, and hypocrisy? Transparency offers one remedy to this lamentable situation. Subtitled A Cure for Hypocrisy in the Modern Church, the book challenges readers to consider why we aren't transparent-including such issues as perfectionism, fear of man, and of course, pride and self-preservation. Likewise, the text shows how transparency unifies the body and crucifies sin, while also relieving the stress of pretending to be someone you're not. More important, the author highlights transparency in Scripture-in the lives of Job, Moses, David, Paul, and Jesus, among others; and he offers a practical framework for making openness work in the local church. Imagine a life without the pretense and artificiality that cripples our fellowship-a life where church members are free to admit their sins and struggles, sharing their deepest needs, worries, and joys in an atmosphere of openness and authenticity. That's the kind of life you will find in this book.
