El tratamiento del cuerpo dentro de las artes ha estado presente, desde la antigüedad, con distintas connotaciones. En Ecuador, desde las primeras novelas realistas, el cuerpo ha tenido un protagonismo que ha simbolizado, principalmente, la tierra: su apropiamiento o su vulneración; por ejemplo, en J. León Mera, Jorge Icaza, Miguel Riofrío. En la actualidad la novela ecuatoriana que más reconocimiento tiene, dentro del mercado literario, es la escrita por mujeres; por este motivo se ha hablado de un Boom de escritoras ecuatorianas que podría surgir de un mercado oportunista para vender al libro desde la autora; o podría surgir de una mirada reivindicativa para las escritoras, como consecuencia del auge de la cuarta ola feminista. Sin embargo, algunas de las escritoras que están dentro del llamado Boom —como Ojeda o Ampuero— lo consideran injusto e insuficiente, ya que siempre ha habido escritoras publicando y también porque faltan escritoras que aún necesitan publicidad y ser leídas. Una de las finalidades de este trabajo es, precisamente, promover la crítica literaria de las escritoras contem- poráneas para rescatar y dejar en evidencia el valor artístico de la obra, en este caso de la novela Nefando de Mónica Ojeda. El objetivo de la presente publicación es exponer la importancia de Nefando de Mónica Ojeda como una novela con carga artística y discursiva potente, a través de los motivos de la violencia sexual, el cuerpo, la memoria, el lenguaje y de los recursos poéticos como el ritmo, los símiles y las metáforas.

Esta colección de reflexiones sobre la cultura y literatura latinoamericanas está dividida en tres partes principales –cada una de ellas compuesta de tres ensayos– y un epílogo. En la primera parte, que he nombrado Arqueologías de la nación, realizo tres incursiones puntuales sobre el modo en que los archivos nacionales literarios han fundamentado su origen y dibujado su pretendida trascendencia. En la segunda parte de este libro, cuyo título es Poéticas y retóricas de autor, visito la obra de varios poetas del siglo XX, para ofrecer a los lectores y futuros investigadores algunas posibilidades interpretativas que estimo novedosas o, por lo menos, insuficientemente estudiadas. En la tercera, denominada Tropos y ficciones culturales, observo la manera en que dos ensayistas y críticos latinoamericanos estructuran sus sistemas de pensamiento, en torno de ciertas figuras retóricas que les permiten narrar la evolución de la cultura latinoamericana. Inspirado en este juego conceptual, construyo mi propia ficción o tropo cultural, para analizar el concepto de interculturalidad literaria, tal como se presenta en un poema que adopto como ejemplo. Finalmente, el Epílogo sobre el canon literario está dedicado al estudio de la figura del librero de inicios del siglo XX en la ciudad de Quito, como miembro pleno del sistema literario: educador, promotor y suscitador del canon.
