Explores a long-neglected aspect of Martin Luther his life and ministry as a pastor. / Sixteen church historians here examine Martin Luther in an uncommon way ? not as Reformer or theologian but as pastor. Luther's work as parish pastor commanded much of his time and energy in Wittenberg. / After first introducing the pastoral Luther, including his theology of the cross, these chapters discuss Luther's preaching and use of language (including humor), investigate his teaching ministry in depth, especially in light of the catechism, and explore his views on such things as the role of women, the Virgin Mary, and music. The book finally probes Luther's sentiments on monasticism and secular authority. / Contributors: Charles P. Arand, James M. Estes, Eric W. Gritsch, Robert Kolb, Beth Kreitzer, Robin A. Leaver, Mickey L. Mattox, Ronald Rittgers, Robert Rosin, Reinhard Schwarz, Jane E. Strohl, Christoph Weimer, Dorothea Wendebourg, Timothy J. Wengert, V?tor Westhelle, H. S. Wilson.

Asylums written by Erving Goffman and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-08 with Social Science categories.

A total institution is defined by Goffman as a place of residence and work where a large number of like-situated, individuals, cut off from the wider society for an appreciable period of time, together lead an enclosed, formally administered round of life. Prisons serve as a clear example, providing we appreciate that what is prison-like about prisons is found in institutions whose members have broken no laws. This volume deals with total institutions in general and, mental hospitals, in particular. The main focus is, on the world of the inmate, not the world of the staff. A chief concern is to develop a sociological version of the structure of the self. Each of the essays in this book were intended to focus on the same issue--the inmate's situation in an institutional context. Each chapter approaches the central issue from a different vantage point, each introduction drawing upon a different source in sociology and having little direct relation to the other chapters. This method of presenting material may be irksome, but it allows the reader to pursue the main theme of each paper analytically and comparatively past the point that would be allowable in chapters of an integrated book. If sociological concepts are to be treated with affection, each must be traced back to where it best applies, followed from there wherever it seems to lead, and pressed to disclose the rest of its family.

Born in Imperia in 1945, Giuseppe Conte is one of the most important and powerful voices in Italian literature today. A talented and versatile writer, he has published numerous books of poetry, novels, criticism, essays, and plays. He has received major literary prizes (including the Premio Montale) and has translated into Italian the works of Shelley, D.H. Lawrence and Walt Whitman. He has traveled extensively, has visited the United States to present his poetry, and now lives in Imperia, Italy, and in Nice, France. The Ocean and the Boy, Conte's first full-length book of poetry, is written in an intensely personal style, fusing myth and everyday reality. In this dual-language edition, the first English translation of a complete poetry book by Conte, the editor-translator, Italian-born poet Laura Stortoni, has included a translator's note, biographical and bibliographical data, endnotes and an introduction by Italo Calvino.
