Engramma 207 investigates the distance between drawing for architecture and drawing for art in the awareness that, although this represents a common medium for human thought activities, there are clear differences with respect to the semantic aspects linked to the sign. These differences are the result of compositional techniques that draw on very different traditions; for example, the way in which the human figure occupies space in a work of painting and the way in which this, conversely, occupies space in an architectural drawing. It was precisely from this example that it seemed necessary to divide this issue in to two sections, one dedicated to Architecture and one to Art.

La rivoluzione spaziale introdotta dalle sperimentazioni teatrali delle Avanguardie russe, sviluppatasi tra Mosca e San Pietroburgo negli anni Venti, si collega a quella dello spazio architettonico e urbano. In questo libro sono lette, scomposte e ricomposte tre opere scelte: due scenografie e un’architettura dell’Avanguardia russa. La rivoluzione nella sintassi dello spazio teatrale è affrontata con la decostruzione delle scenografie per La Vittoria sul Sole di Malevič (San Pietroburgo, 1913) e per Le Cocu Magnifique di Popova (Mosca, 1922). Il Palazzo del Lavoro, disegnato dai Vesnin (1922-23), è l’oggetto di studio sulla sintassi dello spazio architettonico e urbano. Il trattato Elementi della composizione architettonico-spaziale (1934), a cura di Krinskij, Lamcov e Turkus, all’interno del Kontcentr Volume e Spazio (Vchutemas) presentato in appendice, completa il quadro conoscitivo delle idee nate in questa stagione eccezionale, ricca di dibattiti e sperimentazioni.
