This book is the most comprehensive phonetic compilation of cultural information ever produced about the Lokono-Arawak Tribal Nation, of north-east Amazonia, a must-have publication for any academic, Taino, or Kalinago person wanting to know more about their Arawakan ancestral heritage and re-learn some basic practical aspects of their tangible and intangible heritage. After spending his entire life researching as much information as he could find from as many sources as he could find, about his own Lokono-Arawak people, the author realized that there are very few, less than 5 books of first-hand direct source information ever published that were written in English by a Lokono-Arawak person, and 2 of those were written by him, and the others were by pro-assimilation Lokono who did not reveal half of their ancient traditional spirituality that the author has revealed here for the first time. So the author decided to finish this project - to write a general knowledge comprehensive book about the Lokono-Arawak people, that he actually started 27 years ago, however it was a long and slow process of accumulating notes here and there, now and then but never finding the time to compile all in one volume. This is where the COVID-19 Pandemic became a blessing in disguise, becoming unemployed and with nothing but time on his hands, finally gave the author the 4 months he needed to put it all together. Most Lokono-Arawak persons alive today have passed through the scorching fire of Colonialism and its heir - Neo-Colonialism, and much of the information contained in this book - they are themselves unaware of because what was not beaten out of their grandparents and parents in Colonial-era Eurocentric schools, was preached out of them via the other fist of European colonialism called 'Religion'....where the so-called 'representatives' of God on Earth - reinforce the brainwashing of indigenous peoples to make them believe that whatever the non-indigenous priest/pastor tells you is 'Godly and true', but whatever your Tribal Holy man tells you is 'a lie from the Devil'. So this inter-generational trauma has left most of the Lokono alive today under 50 years old very ignorant of much of what is revealed in this book, and very much trapped in the lingering mental slavery Colonial-era brainwashed pro-assimilation thinking that only what the Europeans say or do - is 'civilized' and 'progressive'....and whatever the pro-traditionalists like the author say or do - is 'uncivilized' and 'backward'. So this book was designed to become a tool to ignite a spark in their hearts and souls, to not just claim to be 'proud indigenous' with empty words and put on a show once a year at Heritage month time (September in Guyana - the precise month this book was released), but to TRULY live by those words, and begin to re-learn what it is to be a Lokono-Arawak again, and begin to forget what it is to live like an imitation European - as most are still doing to this day. The absolute MOST IMPORTANT FACT you need to know is that there is no 'right' way to write the Lokono-Arawak language, remember it was NEVER a written language, in fact, I am the first person in the world to write my Tribal language PHONETICALLY - as people who speak English as their first language SHOULD pronounce it. I say this because even though there is no 'right' way to write it - there IS a right way to PRONOUNCE it (in each regional dialect)! However, even this is not a universal absolute...because in Lokono-Arawak we have regional dialects & sub-dialects of our language, just as there are regional/national & sub-dialects of the English language. So likewise, be cognizant of the fact that the Lokono in Venezuela, and the Lokono in Suriname, and the Lokono in French Guiana, and the Lokono in Guyana - all speak regional dialects (and sub-dialects) - and they ALL have added foreign words to our language, which I have omitted from MY work here, so the reader gets only a PURE and ORIGINAL traditional Lokono language to learn.

For academics, there is a great lack of authentic materials about the Lokono-Arawaks that is actually written by them, usually, we only have the writings of a non-indigenous author's second or third-hand accounts, observations, or assumptions - available for perusal about this ancient tribe of people. For the spiritually inclined/curious, it is very interesting to learn of an indigenous cosmovision that is totally different from that espoused by most established dominant organized religions known to mankind, and I daresay some insights the author presents are well worth deeper consideration and meditative pondering upon. For parents and children, it makes for additional reading material that children (in an age where reading is in unfortunate decline) will find exciting to read, in a magical yet scientific and 'consciousness-expanding' kind of way. Some readers may appreciate how the author weaves proven scientific discoveries of similar creatures into several mythical/legendary examples, inviting the reader to not only do online independent research to verify what he is saying but planting logical theoretical possibilities explaining how one relates to - or could support the existence of - the other.

SINGING THE HOLY SPIRIT: HYMN-SINGING, LANGUAGE, AND COMMUNITY AMONG LOKONO ARAWAKS, CHEROKEES, AND JAMAICAN SLAVES, 1740-1840 by James Anthony Owen (Under the Direction of Claudio Saunt) ABSTRACT Hymn-singing played a central role in the early formation of indigenous and non-European conceptions of Christianity. The translation of Christian hymns into indigenous American languages, including creole languages that developed as cross-cultural means of communication in the New World, often cemented the association of Christian ideas such as sin, faith, Satan, and the Holy Spirit with local spirituals ideas and practices. In the process, Christianity was indigenized. Hymn-singing created a cultural space where non-European Christian identity was negotiated. Hymn translations in indigenous languages became a tool for asserting cultural values and a cultural identity that often undermined to goals of European colonialism. Indigenous and enslaved peoples forged tools for cultural survival from European hymn traditions.
