A child of China missionary parents, Keith Clements looks back on a life rich in diverse experiences in many parts of the world as pastor, theologian, writer, and servant of the ecumenical movement. In so doing he finds hope "for the creation of true community in the world, of people among themselves, with God, and with creation. That is what the gospel of Christ is all about, what the church is about, and indeed what God who lives and loves as three-in-one is all about." He recalls instances of grace in which--even amid conflict and tragedy--people, churches, and communities discover the possibilities of new life together. It is both a very human story of personal faith, and an insider's account of ecumenical Christianity's quest for a more visibly united church and a world of peace and justice. Famous influences like Dietrich Bonhoeffer and present-day leaders such as Desmond Tutu figure prominently; but so do so-called ordinary people he has met over the years, whether in an English village, in communist East Germany, or in a South African squatter camp, who have shown by the way they live that another world--and another kind of church--is possible.

This book documents the critiques and theorizings that working-class African-American women have drawn from their educational experiences. Based on a study of five African-American females enrolled in an employer-sponsored workplace speech and language training program, the book presents lessons learned from participants' efforts to negotiate effects of race, class, and gender discrimination both in and out of school. Particularly relevant to the field of education, participants provide insight - on the roles of teachers and schools, instruction, expectations, motivation, race and education, educational experiences at work, and relevant education - to inform and help effect change. Because of its interdisciplinarity, Sisters of Hope, Looking Back, Stepping Forward is an asset for a variety of courses that seek to be inclusive of the educational experiences and theorizings of marginalized groups. Its insights on race, class, gender, marginalization, and inequality are relevant to courses in areas such as African-American studies, women's studies, ethnic studies, multicultural education, sociolinguistics - black Englishes, history, oral history/autobiography, communication, and religion.

In this propulsive memoir from Achut Deng and Keely Hutton, inspired by a harrowing New York Times article, Don't Look Back tells a powerful story showing both the ugliness and the beauty of humanity, and the power of not giving up. I want life. After a deadly attack in South Sudan left six-year-old Achut Deng without a family, she lived in refugee camps for ten years, until a refugee relocation program gave her the opportunity to move to the United States. When asked why she should be given a chance to leave the camp, Achut simply told the interviewer: I want life. But the chance at starting a new life in a new country came with a different set of challenges. Some of them equally deadly. Taught by the strong women in her life not to look back, Achut kept moving forward, overcoming one obstacle after another, facing each day with hope and faith in her future. Yet, just as Achut began to think of the US as her home, a tie to her old life resurfaced, and for the first time, she had no choice but to remember her past.

Ellipses written by Dave Guerrero and has been published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-16 with Religion categories.

Ellipses is a literary expression that represents an implied ending. In print, it looks like this: "..." In life, on the other hand, when we find ourselves smack dab in the middle of one these implied endings, we find ourselves waiting. It's a pause far longer than a comma and can occur out of nowhere, leaving us asking, "What just happened?" and "What am I supposed to do now?" What do we do when we find ourselves in the middle of an ellipsis? Author Dave Guerrero offers us a glimpse of what to do when we face one of these ellipses in our life. Dave points out that the author and perfecter of our faith has woven these moments into our life, and it's what we do when we find ourselves here in the ellipsis that makes all the difference. Using memoirs from his own life, Dave takes his readers through his "God story" to show how the ellipsis is a crucial junction where our "so far, so God" meets "the best is yet to come." With these memoirs, Dave shows how we must find hope for the unknown and for the darkness and often pain-filled moments of the ellipsis to look forward and proclaim the promises of God who smiles at us and says, "The best is yet to come." Dave's own journey was filled with depression, cutting, cancer, eating disorders, and derailed dreams. But David shows how scripture is clear that God is always in control. As you travel through the ellipsis that he has, his prayer is that you will find hope in looking back at your God story and see the all-loving author and perfecter of your faith smiling and saying, "You ain't seen nothing yet."

'Aflame with tension. An intricate, powerful thriller - rivals the very best of Harlan Coben and Lisa Gardner' AJ Finn, author of THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW ***************** She was the most brutal killer of our time. And she may have been my mother... When website columnist Robin Diamond is contacted by true crime podcast producer Quentin Garrison, she assumes it's a business matter. It's not. Quentin's podcast, Closure, focuses on a series of murders in the 1970s, committed by teen couple April Cooper and Gabriel LeRoy. It seems that Quentin has reason to believe Robin's own mother may be intimately connected with the killings. Robin thinks Quentin's claim is absurd. But is it? The more she researches the Cooper/LeRoy murders herself, the more disturbed she becomes by what she finds. Living just a few blocks from her, Robin's beloved parents are the one absolute she's always been able to rely upon, especially now amid rising doubts about her husband and frequent threats from internet trolls. Robin knows her mother better than anyone. But then her parents are brutally attacked, and Robin realises she doesn't know the truth at all... ***************** 'Completely absorbing with a knock-out twist' Harlan Coben 'Gaylin is an expert at acute emotional observation combined with seamless plotting' Alex Marwood 'AL Gaylin is at the top of her game, crafting exhilarating and audacious crime novels that are both rich in character and rivetingly told.
