Looking Back At Macroeconomics 101 written by Alok Sheel and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Asia categories.

A perspective from Asia on the global financial crisis as it unfolded in real time, and, in the process redefined several prevailing macro-economic paradigms. Written by a policy maker with a good knowledge of economics and history who participated in G20 debates on crisis management, it is addressed primarily to the interested layperson, including students who feel their textbooks do not adequately explain the real world. It should also be of interest to subject specialists. The anomalies in the process of fitting fact to theory are littered liberally throughout. Although the central theme is the recent global financial crisis, the book is very broad in sweep with the overarching objective of locating the crisis amidst the broad sweep of economic history, a changing world and policy debates. Structured in a manner that sits easy on the reader, it need not be read from beginning to end. The reader can complete the book without breaking into a sweat, with the big picture in its rich, full detail falling into place frame by frame.

The introductory economics course, often called Econ 101, is where most economists get their start and where many students receive their only exposure to the field. This essay discusses the course's evolution. It first looks back at how economics was taught at Harvard in the 19th century, based on a textbook by Professor Francis Bowen. It then looks ahead at how the introductory course may change as pedagogical tools improve, as society confronts new challenges, and as the field accumulates new knowledge.

This book retraces the history of macroeconomics from Keynes's General Theory to the present. Central to it is the contrast between a Keynesian era and a Lucasian - or dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) - era, each ruled by distinct methodological standards. In the Keynesian era, the book studies the following theories: Keynesian macroeconomics, monetarism, disequilibrium macro (Patinkin, Leijongufvud, and Clower) non-Walrasian equilibrium models, and first-generation new Keynesian models. Three stages are identified in the DSGE era: new classical macro (Lucas), RBC modelling, and second-generation new Keynesian modeling. The book also examines a few selected works aimed at presenting alternatives to Lucasian macro. While not eschewing analytical content, Michel De Vroey focuses on substantive assessments, and the models studied are presented in a pedagogical and vivid yet critical way.

#1 New York Times Bestseller “Significant...The book is both instructive and surprisingly moving.” —The New York Times Ray Dalio, one of the world’s most successful investors and entrepreneurs, shares the unconventional principles that he’s developed, refined, and used over the past forty years to create unique results in both life and business—and which any person or organization can adopt to help achieve their goals. In 1975, Ray Dalio founded an investment firm, Bridgewater Associates, out of his two-bedroom apartment in New York City. Forty years later, Bridgewater has made more money for its clients than any other hedge fund in history and grown into the fifth most important private company in the United States, according to Fortune magazine. Dalio himself has been named to Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Along the way, Dalio discovered a set of unique principles that have led to Bridgewater’s exceptionally effective culture, which he describes as “an idea meritocracy that strives to achieve meaningful work and meaningful relationships through radical transparency.” It is these principles, and not anything special about Dalio—who grew up an ordinary kid in a middle-class Long Island neighborhood—that he believes are the reason behind his success. In Principles, Dalio shares what he’s learned over the course of his remarkable career. He argues that life, management, economics, and investing can all be systemized into rules and understood like machines. The book’s hundreds of practical lessons, which are built around his cornerstones of “radical truth” and “radical transparency,” include Dalio laying out the most effective ways for individuals and organizations to make decisions, approach challenges, and build strong teams. He also describes the innovative tools the firm uses to bring an idea meritocracy to life, such as creating “baseball cards” for all employees that distill their strengths and weaknesses, and employing computerized decision-making systems to make believability-weighted decisions. While the book brims with novel ideas for organizations and institutions, Principles also offers a clear, straightforward approach to decision-making that Dalio believes anyone can apply, no matter what they’re seeking to achieve. Here, from a man who has been called both “the Steve Jobs of investing” and “the philosopher king of the financial universe” (CIO magazine), is a rare opportunity to gain proven advice unlike anything you’ll find in the conventional business press.

Financial Macroeconomics written by Jan A. Kregel and has been published by Anthem Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-08-13 with Business & Economics categories.

The title of this book may seem to confuse two separate disciplines – finance and macroeconomics. However, it is based on the fact that finance and macroeconomics were integrated, at least in their formative years. It is a natural extension of a line of research that dominated monetary theory in the early part of the 20th century. Economists such as Keynes, Robertson, Hawtrey, Fisher, Hayek, and Schumpeter sought to blend the analysis of business cycles with their (often first-hand) experience of money and financial markets. The result was a monetary theory that provided the fertile background to what came to be called macroeconomics. However, in the post-war period, the monetary aspects of this theory dropped out of sight in the neo-classical synthesis and hydraulic Keynesianism. Post-Keynesians such as Davidson and Minsky have done much to try to restore the monetary aspects of the theory, but the other – more technical– aspects of financial analysis have been ignored. This book aims to show how technical aspects of financial were initially part of the early investigations of macroeconomics and how they may be used to provide a realistic analysis of the behavior of modern financial economies.

Economics 101 And Other Thoughts written by Tom Donelson and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-11 with Business & Economics categories.

It's easy to see that Tom Donelson loves to learn. His chief interests are political science and economics. But he also delves into biography, boxing and rock ‘n’ roll. Sometimes, he mixes what he gleans from different disciplines to support certain central ideas: Freedom is good. Free markets are good. People can prosper if government stays out of their way. So here it is, as Donelson says, a synopsis of his thoughts, some of which have been offered in publications ranging from an alternative paper in Kansas City, to daily newspapers (including The Gazette, of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, for which I work on the opinion page), to the National Review. As he observes, it's self-evident that he is a conservative. But he provides plenty of evidence to back taking that point of view. Kurt Rogahn, Cedar Rapid Gazette
