Christian proclamation, says Dietrich Bonhoeffer, is the living Christ walking among the people. Sin Espíritu no puede haber auténtica Cristología, ni genuina eclesiología, ni una praxis cristiana profunda en el seguimiento de Jesús. De ahí la urgencia de una iniciación a la teología del Espíritu Santo («Pneumatología», en términos más técnicos). Pero tanto la pastoral de la Iglesia como la misma teología han olvidado a menudo explicitar la presencia del Espíritu en la historia de salvación, o la han reducido a sus dimensiones más íntimas e individuales. Sin embargo, a la luz de la Escritura y de la tradición de la Iglesia, sobre todo de la Oriental, descubrimos otras dimensiones del Espíritu: el Espíritu no sólo se derrama en nuestros corazones, sino que florece en la Iglesia y llena todo el universo. Este Espíritu clama hoy a través de los signos de los tiempos, de las creaturas que reclaman autonomía, del clamor de los pobres, de las mujeres, de las diversas culturas, del pluralismo religioso, del grito de la tierra que gime con dolores de parto y desea su plena liberación. En un mundo donde muchos, desilusionados, abandonan la Iglesia, o incluso la misma fe cristiana, la referencia al Espíritu se vuelve hoy indispensable. La Iglesia, sobre todo la occidental y latina, ha pagado muy caro el no haber escuchado a tiempo el clamor del Espíritu que sopla dentro y fuera de la comunidad eclesial: en los laicos, en las mujeres, en los jóvenes, en los movimientos sociales, en los humanismos, en los indígenas, en las Iglesias y en las religiones de la humanidad. ¡Hemos de escuchar su clamor! El Espíritu sigue presente y dinámico en la historia. VICTOR CODINA, (Barcelona 1931), jesuita, doctor y profesor de Teología durante 20 años en Cataluña, reside desde hace 25 años en Bolivia, donde ha alternado el trabajo de docencia teológica en la Universidad Católica Boliviana (ISET, Cochabamba) con trabajos más pastorales de formación de laicos y animación de comunidades de base (Oruro y Santa Cruz).
