Su incansable laboriosidad sólo puede compararse con su febril entusiasmo vital, un rasgo que le hizo buscarse numerosas amantes y cuatro esposas, entre ellas Frida Kahlo, con quien sostuvo una intensa relación que sigue siendo una de las más memorables de la historia del arte.
