This book explores the key conceptual features of the development of the Sociology of Work (SoW) in Europe since 1945, using eleven country case studies. An original contribution to our understanding of the trajectory of the SoW, the chapters map the current state of the theoretical background of the sub-discipline's development to broader socio-political and economic changes, traced across a heterogeneous set of national contexts. Different definitions of the SoW in each country often reflect variations in the focus of analysis, and these chapters link the subject definition and focus to other social science disciplines, the state, as well as social class interests and ideologies. The book contends that the ways in which the sub-discipline makes sense of changes in work is itself a response to the type of society in which the sub-discipline is practiced, whether in the post-war social democratic West, the Soviet East, or today's societies, dominated by variant forms of neo-liberalism. It will be of use to scholars and students interested in the transnational history of the discipline of sociology, with a specific focus on the nexus between the sociology of labour, ideology, economics and politics.

¿Es posible leer a Marx como teórico tanto de la subjetividad antagónica como de las prácticas constituyentes de la fuerza de trabajo colectiva en la era de la globalización del capital y de la objetivación rígida de las relaciones sociales? En Obreros y capital, Mario Tronti acomete en esta línea una potente lectura de la obra marxiana y la pone en relación con las experiencias organizativas y las condiciones económicas, sociales y políticas del capitalismo contemporáneo vigentes en la metrópoli italiana. La complejidad de las sociedades capitalistas actuales es la traducción estructural del antagonismo de clase de la fuerza de trabajo colectiva que continuamente inventa y reinventa modos y estrategias de rechazo al trabajo y de autovalorización proletaria. Si los procesos de constitución social no han de agotarse en las lógicas impuestas por las formas actuales derivadas del mercado, la democracia formal y el Estado, es preciso ahondar en el fundamento y la fenomenología de las formas de explotación y de constitución social de la fuerza de trabajo colectiva. Ene este sentido, los conceptos de composición de clase y de antagonismo de clase recuperan una sólida consistencia epistemológica apta para hacer posible ulteriores procesos de investigación y organización política y si la premisa para pensar un mundo en el que la igualdad y la justicia sean fruto de la potencia de los sujetos productivos y no resultado de su explotación estructural, entonces las formas inéditas de cooperación social de estos últimos indican el horizonte de los nuevos modelos políticos para las sociedades del futuro.
