A timely and compelling argument for a revitalized and restructured global politics The future seems increasingly uncertain. Our democracies are failing to prevent financial crises, energy shortages, climate change, and war—so how can we look to the future with confidence? Jan Zielonka argues that it is democracy’s shortsightedness that makes politics stumble in our increasingly connected world. With our governments still confined to the borders of nation-states, defending the short-term interests of present-day voters, the consequences for future generations are dire. In this incisive account, Zielonka makes a bold case for a new politics of time and space. He considers how democracy should adjust to the world of high speed, and he questions our everyday experiences as citizens: Is it acceptable for authorities and firms to monitor our whereabouts? Why is the distribution of time and space so unequal? And, most crucially, can we construct a new system of governance that will allow us to plan ahead with certainty?

International Investment Law And Gender Equality written by Sangwani Patrick Ng’ambi and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-27 with Law categories.

This book analyses the impact that stabilization clauses have on the development of human rights and gender laws in resource rich nations. Given the fact that stabilization clauses freeze the law for as long as the contract subsists there has been debate on the negative impact stabilization clauses have on the progressive development of human rights in the host State. Firstly, the book examines the mechanisms investors utilise in protecting themselves from host State prerogatives. It then explores the theoretical basis on which stabilization clauses are applied and upheld by arbitral tribunals, and assesses how they can be drafted in a way that protects human rights, particularly in relation to gender discrimination, without forcing the resource rich nations to lose momentum in attracting foreign direct investment. Using Zambia and the Gender Equity and Equality Act of 2015 as a case study, the book explores the compatibility of the legislation with the stabilization clauses contained in the country’s Development Agreements. The book will be of interest to practitioners, scholars and students of international investment law, human rights law and contract law.

In the last 20 years, the need for a financial expert to act as a witness and consultant to litigating attorneys has grown even more than litigation itself. Twenty years ago, few certified public accountants or economists offered litigation-related services; now, a large number devote much of their practice to this area. To be litigation service practitioners and accountants need to learn or enhance their litigation skills, including the fine points of their roles in trial preparation and testimony presentation, testimony presentation, deposition, direct examination, cross examination, understanding Sarbanes-Oxley rulings, and fraud investigations.
