Philosophers have long been interested in love and its general role in morality. This volume focuses on and explores the complex relation between love and justice as it appears within loving relationships, between lovers and their wider social context, and the broader political realm. Special attention is paid to the ensuing challenge of understanding and respecting the lovers’ personal autonomy in all three contexts. Accordingly, the essays in this volume are divided into three thematic sections. Section I aims at shedding further light on conceptual and practical issues concerning the compatibility or incompatibility of love and justice within relationships of love. For example, are loving relations inherently unjust? Might love require justice? Or do love and justice belong to distinct moral domains? The essays in Section II consider the relation between the lovers on the one hand and their broader societal environment on the other. Specifically, how exactly are love and impartiality related? Are they compatible or not? Is it unjust to favor one’s beloved? Finally, Section III looks at the political dimensions of love and justice. How, for instance, do various accounts of love inform how we are to relate to our fellow citizens? If love is taken to play an important role in fostering or hindering the development of personal autonomy, what are the political implications that need to be addressed, and how? In addressing these questions, this book engenders a better understanding both of conceptual and practical issues regarding the relation between love, justice, and autonomy as well as their broader societal and political implications. It will be of interest to advanced students and scholars working on the philosophy of love from ethical, political, and psychological angles.

Both personal and scholarly in tone, this book encourages readers to think theologically, ethically, and politically about the statement that declares: “God loves diversity and justice.” The multi-religious, multi-ethnic, multi-disciplinary, and multi-gendered identities of the eleven contributors and two respondents deepen the conversation. It considers questions such as: Do we affirm or challenge this theological statement? Do we concentrate on “God” in our response or do we interrogate what diversity and justice mean in light of God’s love for diversity and justice? Alternatively, do we prefer to ponder the verb, to love, and consider what it might mean for society if people really believed in a divinity loving diversity and justice? Of course, there are no easy and simple answers whether we consult the Sikh scriptures, the Bible, the Qur’an, the movies, the Declaration of Human Rights, or the transgender movement, but the effort is worthwhile. The result is a serious historical, literary, cultural, and religious discourse that fends against intellectually rigid thought and simplistic belief systems across the religious spectrum. In our world in which so much military unrest and violence, economic inequities, and religious strife prevail, such a conversation nurtures theological, ethical, and political possibilities of inclusion and justice.

Faith, hope, and love, traditionally called theological virtues, are central to Christianity. This book renews faith, hope, and love in the context of the many contemporary challenges in many unique ways. It is an ecumenical collection of papers, equally divided between Catholic and Protestant positions, that seek to radically renew the classical doctrine of faith, hope, and love, and argues for their essential connection to the praxis of justice. It contains eight different approaches, each represented by a distinguished theologian and addressing different aspects of the issues and followed by insightful and critical responses. It does not merely seek to renew the theological virtues but to also reconstruct them in the demanding context of justice and the contemporary world, nor is it simply a treatise on justice but a theoretical and practical reflection on justice as vital expressions of faith in God, hope in God, and love of God. A non-dogmatic and non-ideological approach, it accommodates both conservative and liberal positions, and avoids the separation of the theological virtues from the demands of the contemporary world as well as the separation of justice talk from the theological context of faith, hope, and love. It seeks above all to renew, not merely repeat, the classical doctrine of faith, hope, and love in the contemporary context of the urgency of justice, and to do so ecumenically, comprehensively, and from a variety of perspectives and aspects.

Helmut Gollwitzer was a direct heir of the theological legacy of the great Protestant theologian Karl Barth. Yet, Gollwitzer's work is perhaps least appreciated and studied, especially in English, of all of Barth's immediate "descendants." Deeply influenced by his mentor, Gollwitzer appropriated the methodological principles of Barth's theology and extended the sociopolitical impulses and implications within it. In this, Gollwitzer embodies a salient alternative for theological and political discourse, one especially needed in the American context where the two are increasingly intertwined. This volume, the first book-length study of Gollwitzer available in English, provides a helpful introduction to the life, theology, and political thought of this crucial theologian and public intellectual, and makes clear Gollwitzer's importance to the North American context Book jacket.

This book demonstrates miraculously, the bible verse Romans 8:28; "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose". Months before my sister's demise, strange and unusual drama began unfolding in our lives. She was told by her husband of seven years that he kept a secret which he needed to unveil because he had asked to be removed from the Federal Witness program. He began speaking to his estranged family and quickly arranged a visit with two brothers and a son. Within weeks of that visit, her stepson pulled into her driveway in a moving van and she was made aware that her husband invited him to move in with them. Almost immediately, he began disrespecting her, causing fights and fear using strong intimidation and before too long, my sister was telling everyone she needed to leave the volatile environment. When I found out she was missing, and after I had spoken to her husband, I spiritually knew in my heart that something terrible had happened. Her body was unearthed 49 days from the day she was murdered.

Love Is Justice written by Eric Robert Morse and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-02 with Family & Relationships categories.

?Love Is Justice? by Eric Robert Morse is a long essay dedicated to revealing useful truths about love. It is divided into six sections by light-hearted quotes from children that give the reader a taste of the more complex material in each segment. The first part introduces the topic, reviewing our culture?s various notions of love and suggesting one more: justice. Morse uses the second section to show how this new conception can explain the several different types of love we see throughout the world. Here, he also proves how the new conception can elevate and progress mankind as a whole. But, as explained in the third section, it is not easy to find this ?true justification?. Morse discusses the difficulties in doing so and proceeds to examine an alternative in ?false justification? that we humans have discovered and employed in most of our modern relationships. The fourth section illustrates how the alternative is harmful and leads participants downward. In the fifth section, Morse makes it clear that this downward motion is not limited to only the most extreme cases, but all cases of false justification because this artificial love is based in the physical, which, as the theorist explains, is a condition unfavorable to relationships of all kinds. To attain true love, two must elevate their aims beyond the physical. The final section gives us examples of how this can be done and uses the new conception to confirm long standing ideas about love such as Platonic Love, ?love at first sight?, and ?soul mates?. Few attempts at grasping love have been as thorough and practical as Morse?s. ?Love Is Justice? has been praised as an elegant proof of a truly beautiful idea and aims to found a new standard for interpersonal relationships, romantic or otherwise.
