Lately, I have been re-acquainting myself with the writings of Rich Alapack through his latest books -- Loves Pivotal Relationships, Sorrows Profiles, and White Hot True Blue. These reminded me of the lucid beauty of Alapacks writing style and of the deep and penetrating insights that he shares with his reader. I recognize myself and others in the vignettes these books provide, and have been incorporating his texts into my recent graduate classes. Alapacks writings mark a return to the original form in which phenomenologists used to communicate with their readers: via straightforward reflection; drawing upon a lifetime of experience; speaking in simple, descriptive language; and capturing the essence of human experience by mastering the art of speaking truthfully and authentically. It takes a certain kind of free-courageousness to engage in such writing today, in an intellectual climate where demands for methodological rigor (in the form of operationalism run amok) have compromised manuscripts submitted for review, in favor of half-hearted statements of methodological orthodoxy followed by statements of findings that amount to little more than summaries of raw data. What Alapack has achieved in his recent writings, and especially in his latest venture, The Splendor of Seeing and the Magic of Touch, is a truth-speaking both from the authors heart and from his lifetime of authentic dialogue with the interlocutors he has found along his own lifes journey. The gift that he gives to his reader is the gift of inviting us to join him on his own path to enlightenment. Scott D Churchill, PhD Professor and Graduate Program Director University of Dallas Editor-in-Chief, The Humanistic Psychologist This book is heart-warming, joyful, and insightfully brilliant. This authors newest publication, once again, represents a heart-felt and dedicated effort to researching human phenomena from the laboratory of day-today life. In this lifelong work, the author shares many of his personal experiences, experiences of others, then invites us to share a developmental journey through monumental experiences in our childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. He delves into important developmental topics that are rarely, if ever, discussed in mainstream psychological writing. Dr. Alapack offers reflected insight into these experiences, in a playful yet profound manner, allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of who we are, as perfectly imperfect people. Exploring the dynamics of peekaboo with a young-one, playing tag as a juvenile, sharing the exhilarating and/or bitter-sweet memories of the first kiss, barely coping with or perhaps flaunting a teenage hickey, will have you smiling with fondness, as you are reminded of your own experiences. These personal stories and parables are timeless and ageless. This text should be mandatory reading for both students and researchers in developmental psychology. Parents and Educators will find this book personally enriching, and will ultimately benefit from a more in- depth understanding of themselves and their children. I have seen Dr. Alapacks work grow and expand over the years, and this book is a shining example of an existential phenomenologist par excellence. His dedicated work has had a major and significant impact on my personal and professional life. Paul Watters, B.A., B.Ed., M.Ed. M.Ed., Lambton Kent District School Board, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada

Storying Relationships written by Richard Phillips and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-25 with Social Science categories.

Storying Relationships explores the sexual lives of young British Muslims in their own words and through their own stories. It finds engaging and surprising stories in a variety of settings: when young people are chatting with their friends; conversing more formally within families and communities; scribbling in their diaries; and writing blogs, poems and books to share or publish. These stories challenge stereotypes about Muslims, who are frequently portrayed as unhappy in love and sexually different. The young people who emerge in this book, contradicting racist and Islamophobic stereotypes, are assertive and creative, finding and making their own ways in matters of the body and the heart. Their stories – about single life, meeting and dating, pressure and expectations, sex, love, marriage and dreams – are at once specific to the young British Muslims who tell them, and resonant reflections of human experience.

I Love You But I M Not In Love With You written by Andrew G. Marshall and has been published by Bloomsbury Paperbacks this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Couples categories.

Five years ago the occasional couple would present themselves at Andrew G. Marshall's therapy office after one partner had confessed- 'I love you, but I'm not in love with you.' These couples might describe each other as their best friend, or admit that they had become more like a brother and sister, except that most were still having sex. In essence, the partnership had become defined by companionship rather than passion, and companionship was no longer enough. In recent years, however, more and more couples have complained to Andrew of the same problem - almost one in four. Discovering an absolute lack of research into 'I love you but . . .', marriage counsellor and writer Andrew devised his own unique and highly successful approach. In I Love You But I'm Not in Love with You, he shares his insights into what brings a couple to this pivotal point and the seven steps that can make it a step forward. By looking at how a couple communicate, argue, show love and affection, foster a sense of play, take responsibility, give and learn, he offers a reassuring and empowering map for how two individuals can better understand themselves and each other, and forge a bond that is stronger than ever.

What Matters Most written by Leonard Sweet and has been published by WaterBrook this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-13 with Religion categories.

Belief can exist in isolation, but faith requires a relationship Why wade in the shallows of belief when you can plunge into the depths of faith? Belief involves a different way of thinking, but faith brings about a new way of living. It grows through direct experience and a close relationship, both of which come as you follow Jesus. As Christians we often talk about developing a “personal relationship” with Christ, but instead of pursuing a relationship, we pursue knowledge. We are tempted to place confidence in our definite, settled beliefs, which offer a pale substitute for the daily adventure of an honest relationship with Jesus. In What Matters Most, Leonard Sweet presents a challenging and compelling approach to belief that is joined by dynamic engagement with God. You are invited to explore the uncharted regions of faith by following Jesus, completely on his terms. Once you begin, you will never go back to mere belief.
