Results of a limited experimental study of atmospheric absorption in moist air at low frequencies are reported. The measurements were carried out in a resonance absorption tube at ratios of frequency to pressure of 4.6 to 403 Hz/atm. This extends the f/P range of laboratory measurements of absorption in air well below limits of previously published data in air of about 140 Hz/atm. The experimental apparatus was calibrated, using argon, over the same f/P range. The measured and predicted absorption in air and in argon generally agreed with existing theoretical models, although substantial deviations remain to be explained. (Author).

The Propagation Of Low Frequency Sound Through An Audience written by Elena Shabalina and has been published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Architecture categories.

At large outdoor concerts or festivals subwoofers, the dedicated low frequency loudspeakers, are often placed in a row in front of the stage as an evenly spaced array in order to control the directivity of sound at low frequencies. The audience itself often stands tightly packed in front of the array, so that sound waves propagate partly through the audience and partly over it. This thesis presents an investigation on how exactly the presence of the audience influences the propagation of sound. A mathematical model of an audience as an equivalent fluid is constructed with the help of the porous medium theory. The equivalent fluid parameters, such as the wave impedance, the speed of sound and the reflection coefficient from the audience/air boundary, are calculated both for a constant and a variable concentration of an audience. The model is verified by a Boundary Element Method simulation, scale measurements and live concert measurements. A new live measurement method is developed to evaluate the low frequency sound pressure level distribution without disturbing the ongoing event. The study reaches the conclusion that at low frequencies an audience forms a medium with the impedance significantly different from the impedance of the air, which leads to the reflection of sound waves from the boundaries back into the audience and increase of the sound pressure level as well as interference effects. Possible applications of the findings are mainly sound system design and event planning.

Noise Reduction Analysis written by Uno Ingard and has been published by Jones & Bartlett Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-03-04 with Science categories.

Written by a noted authority in the subject area, this book is a comprehensive study of the theory and practical application of noise reduction to numerous fields. It may be used as a reference by scientists and engineers or in a senior-undergraduate or graduate-level course. The first six chapters deal with the basic mechanisms of sound absorption by which acoustic energy is converted into heat in viscous and thermal boundaries in a sound field. The second part covers duct attenuators with a discussion of how their performance is described and measured. The main part of each chapter is planned to be descriptive, and contains numerical results that should be of direct interest for design work. Mathematical analysis is placed at the end of the chapters.

Fundamentals Of Noise And Vibration Analysis For Engineers written by M. P. Norton and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-10-16 with Science categories.

Noise and Vibration affects all kinds of engineering structures, and is fast becoming an integral part of engineering courses at universities and colleges around the world. In this second edition, Michael Norton's classic text has been extensively updated to take into account recent developments in the field. Much of the new material has been provided by Denis Karczub, who joins Michael as second author for this edition. This book treats both noise and vibration in a single volume, with particular emphasis on wave-mode duality and interactions between sound waves and solid structures. There are numerous case studies, test cases, and examples for students to work through. The book is primarily intended as a textbook for senior level undergraduate and graduate courses, but is also a valuable reference for researchers and professionals looking to gain an overview of the field.
