Raumplanung, Note: 1,7, Universität Passau (Philosophische Fakultät), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Angola erlebt seit dem Ende des Bürgerkriegs einen eminenten wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung. Triebfeder der Prosperität sind die reichlich vorhandenen natürlichen Ressourcen des Landes, allen voran das Erdöl, wodurch ein durchschnittlich zweistelliges wirtschaftliches Wachstum des BIPs im letzten Jahrzehnt erzielt werden konnte. Die Hauptstadt ist Luanda, die den Status der demographischen und funktionalen Primatstellung in Angola einnimmt. Sie gilt weltweit als eine der teuersten Städte für die Entsendung ausländischer Mitarbeiter. Dies erscheint wunderlich gilt Angola doch als Entwicklungsland, in denen zwei Drittel der Bevölkerung von weniger als 2 US Dollar am Tag leben. Zwangsläufig müssten also das Gros der angolanischen Bewohner Luandas grundsätzlich unterschiedliche Lebenshaltungskosten als ausländische Arbeiter und die einheimische Oberschicht haben, einer konträren Beschäftigung nachgehen und ein anderes Konsumverhalten aufweisen. Inwiefern dies zutrifft und zu einer sozialräumlichen Segregation führt, wird in der vorliegenden Bachelorarbeit analysiert.

Die angolanische Geschichte wird geprägt von antikolonialem Befreiungskampf und Bürgerkrieg. Seit 2002 erlebt das Land einen wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung bei gleichzeitiger politischer Stagnation. Vor diesem Hintergrund hat sich eine Kunstszene entwickelt, die einen Höhepunkt in der erstmals 2006 stattfindenden Luanda Triennale hatte. Zugleich ist diese neue Kunstwelt mit den älteren Künstlergenerationen in Bezug zu setzen. Diese Studie basiert auf einer sowohl ethnographischen als auch kunstwissenschaftlichen Untersuchung der Kunstwelt Luandas und spürt der Beziehung der Künstlergenerationen zu einem kollektiven Bildarchiv nach. Nostalgie und Utopie bilden dabei die konzeptuellen Zugänge und die drei Künstlergenerationen seit 1975 den zentralen Gegenstand.

The favelas of Rio de Janeiro are shantytowns that lack even the most basic infrastructure and services. The Favela-Bairro Project, featuring the work of Jorge Mario Jáuregui Architects, seeks to turn these blighted areas into functioning neighborhoods, or bairros. Jáuregui's design initiatives include the construction of community centers offering recreational activities and job training, daycare facilities, communal kitchens, and new streets and pedestrian walkways. These projects facilitate movement within the favelas, create links to the city center, address health and environmental concerns, and taken collectively, improve the sociological and economic status of the favelas.

Gated communities are a new "hot button" in many North American cities. From Boston to Los Angeles and from Miami to Toronto citizens are taking sides in the debate over whether any neighborhood should be walled and gated, preventing intrusion or inspection by outsiders. This debate has intensified since the hard cover edition of this book was published in 1997. Since then the number of gated communities has risen dramatically. In fact, new homes in over 40 percent of planned developments are gated n the West, the South, and southeastern parts of the United States. Opposition to this phenomenon is growing too. In the small and relatively homogenous town of Worcester, Massachusetts, a band of college students from Brown University and the University of Chicago picketed the Wexford Village in November of 1998 waving placards that read "Gates Divide." These students are symbolic of a much larger wave of citizens asking questions about the need for and the social values of gates that divide one portion of a community from another.
