On 11 September 1973, the Chilean Chief of the Armed Forces Augusto Pinochet overthrew the Popular Unity government of Salvador Allende and installed a military dictatorship. Yet this is a book not of parties or ideologies but public history. It focuses on the memorials and memorialisers at seven sites of torture, extermination, and disappearance in Santiago, engaging with worldwide debates about why and how deeds of violence inflicted by the state on its own citizens should be remembered, and by whom. The sites investigated — including the infamous National Stadium — are among the most iconic of more than 1,000 such sites throughout the country. The study grants a glimpse of the depth of feeling that survivors and the families of the detained-disappeared and the politically executed bring to each of the sites. Poetry began as a spoken art and remains one to this day, but readers tend to view the poem on the page as an impenetrable artifact. This book examines the performance of poetry to show how far beyond the page it can travel. Exploring a range of performances from early twentieth-century recitations to twenty-first-century film, CDs, and Internet renditions, Beyond the Page offers analytic tools to chart poetry beyond printed texts. Jill S. Kuhnheim, looking at poetry and performance in Spanish America over time, has organized the book to begin with the early twentieth century and arrive at the present day. She includes noteworthy poets and artists such as José Martí, Luis Palés Matos, Eusebia Cosme, Nicomedes Santa Cruz, Pablo Neruda, César Vallejo, and Nicolás Guillén, as well as very recent artists whose performance work is not as well known. Offering fresh historical material and analysis, the author illuminates the relationship between popular and elite cultural activity in Spanish America and reshapes our awareness of the cultural work poetry has done in the past and may do in the future, particularly given the wide array of technological possibilities. Tanos, che deriva da Napolitanos, era il nome dato dagli Argentini agli emigrati italiani, che giungevano a Puerto Madero dal Porto di Napoli, all’indomani dell’Unità d’Italia. Del resto i versi di una nota canzone “Santa Lucia Luntana” consacrava quegli emigrati come “Napulitani”: “Partanu i bastimenti ‘ppe terre assai luntane/Cantano a buerdu e ssu Napulitani”. Le persone incontrate dall’autore raccontano e si raccontano. Nell’attraversare l’Argentina da un capo all’altro, da nord a sud, da est ad ovest, Pasquale Guaglianone incontra persone sempre diverse, dalle quali ascolta storie sempre nuove, ricche di emozioni, ma soprattutto commoventi. “Gli emigrati sono coloro che hanno desiderio di raccontare le proprie storie, se c’è qualcuno che ha pazienza di ascoltarle. Io le ascolto. E allora, loro raccontano a me ed io racconto a voi”. Così apre i racconti Pasquale Guaglianone. Pertanto il libro si presenta come via di mezzo tra diario di viaggio e raccolta di storie, di ricordi, di pensieri, di nostalgie. L’autore incontra persone diverse, ciascuna con la propria storia da raccontare, ciascuna con le proprie abitudini, con le proprie tradizioni familiari, con i propri pregi e i propri difetti, con riti, superstizioni, usi e costumi dei luoghi di origine, cosicchè dai racconti emergono le note che caratterizzano la terra italiana di provenienza: usi, costumi, tradizioni, abitudini, detti popolari, dialettismi; tutti elementi, che avvicinano l’emigrato alla madrepatria e la madrepatria all’emigrato. I temi trattati, i racconti, i dialoghi creano situazioni di coinvolgimento e di empatia tanto da far immaginare o rivivere nel lettore situazioni, circostanze, sentimenti di propri familiari o amici. Insomma nel libro c’è tutto quello che serve per tenere vicino noi agli emigrati e questi a noi, attraverso un racconto coinvolgente,che non tralascia notizie e descrizione di luoghi, di personaggi pittoreschi, di miti e ricordi di un tempo che fu. Lo stile presenta una forma di scrittura scorrevole di derivazione giornalistica, molto accattivante tanto da trasmettere nel lettore i colori, i profumi, i sentimenti, le emozioni, che egli non può sperimentare di persona. Un libro, quindi, che avvince, commuove, fa sognare; un racconto affascinante in un linguaggio fluido, misto di italiano, dialetto e castigliano, ricco di modi di esprimersi, che influenzano l’autore nel suo scrivere e raccontare. Pasquale Guaglianone si fa, pertanto, innovatore dell’espressione linguistica. Sovente i nostri emigrati, che dopo moltissimi anni riescono a ritornare per breve tempo nel paese natio, ripetono: “Veniamo in Italia e ci indicano come Americani, in Argentina ci chiamano Tanos; chi veramente siamo?”. Questione di identità! E non è questione di poco conto... almeno sotto l’aspetto psicologico. Però, dopo aver letto il libro TANOS di Pasquale Guaglianone, rifletto e sostengo che, se la lingua è fondamentale nella indicazione di appartenenza ad una nazionalità, questa usata nel libro appartiene a Los Tanos e che Pasquale Guaglianone ha dato a Los Tanos e alla loro lingua dignità letteraria. Nos complace y entusiasma muy particularmente presentar este álbum. Todo toma origen en la feliz inquietud del pianista Ricardo Zanón, quien se comunica con esta casa editora para comentarnos sobre un proyecto que ideó y llevó a cabo junto a Sebastián Gangi: la desgrabación y registro en grafía musical (con la puntillosidad y cuidado que merecía) de los Postangos que Gerardo Gandini interpretaba desde su universo siempre proclive a articuladores y dinámicas variables que él mismo tomaba como punto de partida. Tal como sus allegados y prologuistas destacan, Gandini abordaba estas improvisaciones con solo algunas anotaciones particulares que constituían un ayuda-memoria de los procederes técnicos y estilísiticos que, en tiempo real, convertiría luego en sonidos organizados desde su piano. Hoy, tal como Zanón indica, nos sentimos orgullosos de poder acercar a todo pianista, compositor y/o músico en general esta publicación que permite acceder con detalle riguroso y preciso al pensamiento y la interpretación de Gandini, sobre estas célebres composiciones del repertorio popular argentino. Nos hemos propuesto acompañar esas notables desgrabaciones de Gangi (con la curaduría por Zanón) con las composiciones originales, de modo tal que el lector, intérprete o musicólogo que acceda a esta edición, tenga la posibilidad de comparar o dialogar de inmediato con una u otra versión, o, mejor aún, con el vasto universo que se desprende entre la creación de una obra y la ensoñación o abordaje que realiza Gandini de la misma composición. Tocar una y otra versión de modo sucesivo a partir de este álbum, podrá ser otra de las vías de trasmisión de toda esta amalgama creativa. Hemos querido adjuntar en la edición la emblemática 'Cadenza' que realizó Gandini en el concierto que llevaron a cabo la orquesta de Osvaldo Pugliese y el quinteto de Astor Piazzolla en el Teatro Carre, de Amsterdam el 29 de junio de 1989 (desgrabación hecha por Sebastián Gangi). Para muchos la hiancia, el vértice, el punto de inflexión inevitable hacia el universo de los Postangos. Por último, en este mismo apartado, agregaremos los enlaces audiovisuales existentes a la fecha de las grabaciones de Gandini, así como aquellos de las grabaciones que Ricardo Zanón publica como su propia interpretación sobre el trabajo realizado conjuntamente con Gangi. Todo lo cual permitirá que este volumen no sea exclusivamente la grafía musical en el papel (o reproductor virtual) sino también la referencia sonora específica de la cual parte y que redunda en un resultado actual y futuro.
