Im Disput über die "Ostforschung" in der NS-Ära fiel ein wenig günstiges Licht auf den nordöstlichsten Wissenschaftsstandort des Deutschen Reiches, dessen Alma Mater in den Ruch einer dem Nationalsozialismus lange vor 1933 den Weg ebnende, danach in "Lebensraum"-Planungen involvierte "Grenzlanduniversität" geriet. Die letzten Monographie zur Universitätsgeschichte datiert aus dem Jubiläumsjahr 1944.
