Dadurch wird verdeutlicht, dass er als Ingenieur und Verkehrsökonom in der Lage war, sowohl die technischen als auch die wirtschaftlichen Aspekte zu analysieren. Bei dem Bau von Straßen, Brücken, Eisenbahnen und Kanälen, bei der Planung von Wasserbauten sowie bei der Wildbachverbauung, war der Tiroler Ingenieurs stets darauf bedacht, Werke zu schaffen, die den tatsächlichen Bedürfnissen und Ressourcen eines Gebiets entsprachen und so weit wie möglich mit der Natur im Einklang standen. Die Auswirkungen dieser Eingriffe waren nicht auf das 19. Jh. beschränkt, sondern sind auch heute noch spürbar. In einer Zeit, während der die Ausartung nationaler Ideologien zur Errichtung von Barrieren zwischen Völkern und ethnischen Gruppen führte, war Negrelli bestrebt Hindernisse zu beseitigen, Brücken zu bauen, Straßen und Eisenbahnen zu errichten und Kanäle zu öffnen. Er verfolgte dabei immer das Ziel die Beziehungen zwischen verschiedenen Realitäten und Nationen in gemeinsamer Zusammenarbeit zu fördern.
