Excerpt from Lumleian Lectures on Cerebro-Spinal Fever: Delivered Before the Royal College of Physicians of London on April 3, 8, and 10, 1919 Cerebro-spinal fever has not, so far as I can make out, previously been taken as the subject of these lectures, and as it has become prominent during the war and has been the subject of numerous observations and much investigation it is, perhaps, appropriate to take a survey of our present know ledge of the epidemiology, clinical picture, and treatment 'of the disease in these three lectures. I have been so fortunate as to have seen the notes and many of the cases in the Royal Navy since the outbreak of war, and have freely utilised this material. The official nomenclature of meningococcal infection, varieties (a) cerebro-spinal meningitis, (b) posterior basal meningitis, only dates from the last revision published in 1918; before that the heading had always been Cerebro Spinal fever, synonym epidemic cerebro-spinal meningitis.
