Spinnenritter greifen an Ein kleiner Ort in Spanien: Camilla Davies und Alan Kennan wollen eine Zirkusvorstellung besuchen, wo der "Unbezwingbare", ein Mann namens Pawel Lanzinski, dem Feuer trotzt. Sie mutmaßen, dass dieser Mensch vielleicht ebenfalls von dem versunkenen Kontinent Xantilon stammt. Was sie nicht ahnen ist, dass Lanzinski und seine Truppe Diener von Molochos sind, die sich mit ihrem Führer an einem Sammelplatz der Dämonen treffen wollen. Dort formiert Molochos bereits seine Armee: Die Spinnenritter. Währenddessen wollen Björn Hellmark und Carminia Brado jenen magischen Geistspiegel aus den Gärten des Hestus bergen, mit dem sie an jeden Ort der Welt gelangen können. Ohne Björns Zutun aktiviert sich der Spiegel plötzlich und befördert Hellmark zu jenem Versammlungsort der Dämonen und mitten hinein in das Netz einer teuflischen Riesenspinne ... Das Plasmaungeheuer Clark Malone beschwört in seinem Keller einen archaischen Dämon in Gestalt einer amorphen Plasmamasse. Diese hat unbändigen Appetit nach Menschenfleisch. Nachdem sie nicht nur Clarks Frau, deren Liebhaber und sämtliche Gäste einer kleinen Party verspeist hat, wendet sie sich gegen ihren Herrn und frisst diesen ebenfalls. Dadurch gehen auch sämtliche Bewusstseinsinhalte in den Dämon über. Durch einen Trucker, der mit Clark Malone bekannt ist, gelangt das Monster nach New York. Dort verfolgen Rani Mahay und Björn Hellmark die Spur ihres Erzfeindes Molochos, der wieder in der Maske eines harmlosen Bürgers sein Unwesen treibt. Doch der Dämonenfürst scheint immer einen Schritt voraus zu sein und als das Plasma-Ungeheuer ein Hochhaus in Beschlag nimmt müssen Björn und Rani alles in die Waagschale werfen, um das Leben von Hunderten von Menschen zu retten ...

Nicht ahnend, dass sie dort grauenvolle Monster und tödliche Gefahren erwarten ... Auf der Erde starten in der Zwischenzeit die sieben schwarzen Ritter der Apokalypta einen Beutezug des Schreckens. Eine Farm in den USA wird Schauplatz einer schaurigen Tragödie, denn Gigantopolis lechzt nach den Toten, um sie in Monster zu verwandeln ... Eissturmland des Drachenkönigs Carminia Brado, Rani Mahay, Arson, Pepe, Jim und Kaphoon ist es gelungen ihren Freund Björn Hellmark aus der Alptraumstadt Gigantopolis zu entführen und Apokalyptas Bann zu zerstören. Nun müssen sie allerdings ihren Vorteil nutzen und Apokalypta samt ihrer Stadt vernichten. Gigantopolis kann aber nur zerstört werden, wenn die Ritter von sieben verschiedenen Kämpfern zur selben Zeit getötet werden. Die Alptraumstadt ist in sieben Abschnitte unterteilt, die jeweils von einem schwarzen Ritter verwaltet werden. Björn Hellmark sendet seinen Doppelkörper Macabros nach Gigantopolis und beobachtet, wie die Schwarzen Ritter sich in einer kleineren Version der Stadt in eine Wand in zweidimensionale Gestalten verwandeln.

Adam, Prometheus, and Faust--their stories were central to the formation of Western consciousness and continue to be timely cautionary tales in an age driven by information and technology. Here Theodore Ziolkowski explores how each myth represents a response on the part of ancient Hebrew, ancient Greek, and sixteenth-century Christian culture to the problem of knowledge, particularly humankind's powerful, perennial, and sometimes unethical desire for it. This book exposes for the first time the similarities underlying these myths as well as their origins in earlier trickster legends, and considers when and why they emerged in their respective societies. It then examines the variations through which the themes have been adapted by modern writers to express their own awareness of the sin of knowledge. Each myth is shown to capture the anxiety of a society when faced with new knowledge that challenges traditional values. Ziolkowski's examples of recent appropriations of the myths are especially provocative. From Voltaire to the present, the Fall of Adam has provided an image for the emergence from childhood innocence into the consciousness of maturity. Prometheus, as the challenger of authority and the initiator of technological evil, yielded an ambivalent model for the socialist imagination of the German Democratic Republic.
