Als die sogenannte Bankenkrise die Euroländer im Jahr 2008 erreichte, wurde das hohe Haushaltsdefizit einiger Länder deutlich. Diverse Rettungspakete sind geschnürt worden, um z. B. Gehälter und Pensionen gekürzt, Staatsbedienstete entlassen und das Budget für Krankenhäuser und Medikamente gekürzt worden. In dieser Studie wird unter Berücksichtigung der historischen Entwicklung des modernen Wirtschaftswachstums und der Entwicklung des Finanzsektors dargestellt, in welchem Umfang die Geldpolitik der Zentralbanken und die Fiskalpolitik der Staaten mit dem vorhandenen Geldsystem in der Lage sind, die Realwirtschaft zu beeinflussen.
