This book examines subjectivity and neoliberalism in Latin America. Los años de 2008 al 2011 han marcado a Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Durante este lapso, la ciudadanía experimentó un período de cuatro años de extrema violencia, lo que posicionó a la ciudad entre las más violentas del mundo. Éste fue un período marcado por la gran cantidad de homicidios dolosos que fueron cometidos principalmente en sus calles, lo que provocó el agravamiento y el desarrollo de nuevas problemáticas sociales como la desaparición de mujeres y hombres, extorsiones, secuestros y el pago “por protección”, entre otros actos criminales cometidos en contra de la ciudadanía. Sin embargo, antes de este quiebre de la seguridad ciudadana, Ciudad Juárez ya era reconocida por el feminicidio: la alta incidencia de asesinatos de mujeres cometidos por hombres. Ésta fue la primera problemática social estudiada y sistematizada por quienes coordinan este libro. Con el estudio de los feminicidios a partir de bases de datos georreferenciadas y analizadas con técnicas geoestadísticas y de análisis espacial, se sentaron las bases para entender el comportamiento espacial y temporal del fenómeno. En esta obra se cubrieron cuatro niveles de violencia utilizando técnicas similares: homicidios dolosos, delincuencia juvenil y maltrato a niñas y niños, y la actualización del Sistema de Información Geográfica del Feminicidio (Sigfem). Todo esto permitió la creación del Sistema de Información Geográfica para la Vida (Sigvida), gracias al compromiso social de la Comisión Nacional para Prevenir y Erradicar la Violencia (Conavim). En general, los territorios de la violencia tienen patrones espaciales definidos y se explican en gran parte por las condiciones de marginalidad con zonas de exclusión social para importantes segmentos de la población que, si bien habitan la misma extensión urbana de la ciudad, son ciudadanías socialmente desiguales. Con este esfuerzo, desde la academia se aportan elementos fundamentales de análisis para la toma de decisiones públicas que ayuden a la conformación de una ciudadanía libre de violencia en Ciudad Juárez.
