She's wonderful - she's just kind of destroying my life. Maggie (Greta Gerwig) is a young single woman in Brooklyn who is determined to have a baby on her own through a surrogate. However, she meets John (Ethan Hawke), an attractive, older university professor, caught in an unhappy marriage, and they start a relationship. Maggie's rejuvenating enthusiasm lures John away from his wife, the domineering Danish critical theorist Georgette Norgaard (Julianne Moore). The film moves forward three years and the couple have married and settled down with a daughter together. Everything has gone according to Maggie's plan, so why isn't she happy? And what sort of meddlesome scheme will she concoct next? Maggie's Plan, based on an unpublished novel by Karen Rinaldi, is both an affectionate send-up of highbrow academic culture and a treatise on modern self-realization. Rebecca Miller exhibits her characteristic sensitivity to female experience, but with a playfulness given freer rein than ever before in her work. The film was premiered at the New York Film Festival in October 2015 and received its official US premiere in May 2016.

Economic Woman written by Deanna K. Kreisel and has been published by University of Toronto Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-01-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

The ways in which women are portrayed in Victorian novels can provide important insights into how people of the day thought about political economy, and vice versa. In Economic Woman, Deanna K. Kreisel innovatively shows how images of feminized sexuality in novels by George Eliot and Thomas Hardy reflected widespread contemporary anxieties about the growth of capitalism. Economic Woman is the first book to address directly the links between classical political economy and gender in the novel. Examining key works by Eliot and Hardy, including The Mill on the Floss and Tess of the d’Urbervilles, Kreisel investigates the meaning of two female representations: the ‘economic woman,’ who embodies idealized sexual restraint and wise domestic management, and the degraded prostitute, characterized by sexual excess and economic turmoil. Kreisel effectively integrates economic thought with literary analysis to contribute to an ongoing and lively scholarly discussion.

“This book will soon become a widely accepted standard on how to deliver a successful project on time and on budget in any industry.” —John Garahan, Vice President, Global Delivery, Broadridge Financial Solutions Successful project managers must engage and motivate others to achieve complex goals. Ruth Pearce shows how behavior, language, and attitudes affect engagement and how leveraging character strengths can help improve relationships, increase innovation, and build higher-functioning teams. This focus on character strengths—such as bravery, curiosity, fairness, gratitude, and humor—can help project managers recognize and cultivate the things that are best in themselves and others. Many project managers do not have the authority to direct the activities of people on their teams—they can only influence them. The most influential people succeed by focusing less on themselves and their message and more on others. They pay attention, they are brave, they are vulnerable, they are curious, and they look for and acknowledge the things that are important about and to the other person. And they model the behavior that they want to see. This book tells you how. Pearce provides tools and frameworks for building a culture of appreciation, understanding character strengths, mapping leadership qualities, understanding learning styles, identifying team roles, and executing plans. She also explores the factors that contribute to conflict and tensions, as well as strategies for getting through difficult times. We see these tools and techniques in action through “Maggie,” a project manager who is struggling to motivate her team. Each chapter concludes with reflective questions to make the ideas stick and with key strategies for success.

Performing The Everyday In Henry James S Late Novels written by Professor Maya Higashi Wakana and has been published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-28 with Literary Criticism categories.

Focusing on James's last three completed novels – The Ambassadors, The Wings of the Dove, and The Golden Bowl – Maya Higashi Wakana shows how a microsociological approach to James's novels radically revises the widespread tradition of putting James's characters into historical and cultural contexts. Wakana begins with the premise that day-to-day living is inherently theatrical and thus duplicitous, and goes on to show that James's art relies significantly on his powerful sense of the agonizing and even dangerous complications of mundane face-to-face rituals that pervade his work. Centrally informed by social thinkers such as G. H. Mead and Erving Goffman, Wakana's study discloses the richness, complexity, and singularity of the interpersonal connections depicted in James's late novels. Persuasively argued, and rich in original close readings, her book makes an important contribution to James's studies and to theories of social interaction.
