Legjobb tudomásom szerint még nem jelent meg a magyar biblikusokról és a magyar bibliakutatás történetéről szóló mű. A magyar teológiai irodalom és a hazai bibliai lexikonok – leszámítva a kevesek által ismert és régen megjelent Czeglédy–Hamar–Kállay-féle lexikont (1933) – csak igen kevés bibliakutató életrajzi adatait tartalmazzák, sőt az előbb említett lexikon is inkább csak a nemzetközi tekintélyekkel foglalkozik. A magyar teológusok és köztük a Biblia kutatásával foglalkozók régen sem és ma sem ismerik kimerítően egymás munkáját, munkafeltételeit. A sokszor tiszteletreméltó, de magányos erőfeszítések híre, eredményei a felekezeti és földrajzi megoszlás és a rossz bibliográfiai szolgáltatások miatt csak nehezen jutnak el a többi magyar kutatóhoz. Ez a lexikon mindezt a hiányt próbálja orvosolni első és természetesen nem tökéletes kísérletként. A Lexikonban minden elhunyt magyar biblikust igyekeztünk felvenni, az élőket ha legalább 50 évesek vagy több könyvük, kommentárjuk jelent meg. A régebbi anyagot Szinnyei Magyar Írók élete c. munkából vettük, az újabbakat magyar lexikonokból és saját CV alapján közöljük. Ebből adódik a személyekről szóló címszavak egyenetlensége. Mégis igyekeztünk a legfontosabb magyar bibliakutatók névtárát elkészíteni és a jelentős publikációkkal, legtöbb esetben a könyveik felsorolásával egybegyűjteni. Az egyes szerzők bibliográfiai adatai nem teljesek és igen eltérőek. Egyes kevésbé ismert, talán nem is Magyarországon élő magyar kutatók esetében többet soroltunk fel a munkáikból. Csak reménykedem, hogy nem maradt ki senki. Felekezeti és vallási megoszlástól függetlenül szerepelnek a lexikonban katolikus, evangélikus, református kutatók, magyar vonatkozású rabbik is. Sőt azokat a klasszika-filológiával foglalkozó magyar kutatókat is bevettük a lexikonba, akiknek szakterülete valamilyen módon érintkezik a Biblia korával vagy a bibliai archeológiával.

Despite popular opinions of the ‘dark Middle Ages’ and a ‘gloomy early modern age,’ many people laughed, smiled, giggled, chuckled, entertained and ridiculed each other. This volume demonstrates how important laughter had been at times and how diverse the situations proved to be in which people laughed, and this from late antiquity to the eighteenth century. The contributions examine a wide gamut of significant cases of laughter in literary texts, historical documents, and art works where laughter determined the relationship among people. In fact, laughter emerges as a kaleidoscopic phenomenon reflecting divine joy, bitter hatred and contempt, satirical perspectives and parodic intentions. In some examples protagonists laughed out of sheer happiness and delight, in others because they felt anxiety and insecurity. It is much more difficult to detect premodern sculptures of laughing figures, but they also existed. Laughter reflected a variety of concerns, interests, and intentions, and the collective approach in this volume to laughter in the past opens many new windows to the history of mentality, social and religious conditions, gender relationships, and power structures.

This volume has its origins in a theme session entitled: “Lexical and Grammatical Classification: Same or Different?” from the Fifth International Cognitive Linguistics Conference.
