Maifeo, figlia della luna, è il diario di Alice, una ragazza che ha avuto il coraggio di lasciare le comode sicurezze della sua casa, la compagnia dei suoi amici, le piccole e grandi soddisfazioni di una vita comoda e tranquilla, per trascorrere un anno come volontaria in servizio civile in uno sperduto villaggio del Camerun. L'orizzonte di questo diario è il villaggio di Mouda, che si trova vicino a Maroua, capoluogo della Provincia camerunese dell'Estremo Nord, quasi a ridosso del Ciad. Le sue giornate si riempiono della cura per i disabili e l'attività dell'asilo per i più piccoli, con i quali Alice, insieme alle sue colleghe camerunensi, trascorre le mattinate, riempite dei giochi, delle mille piccole attività con le quali coltivare la formazione di queste piccole menti e di questi piccoli corpi che costituiranno anch'essi il nostro comune futuro. È chiaro, infatti, che il futuro appartiene ai bambini e l'investimento più grande e più sicuro che una comunità possa fare è quello di puntare sull'educazione dei suoi figli, di tutti i suoi figli, anche di quelli meno fortunati, soprattutto di questi. Da ciò si misura il grado di civiltà e di consapevolezza di una comunità, anche di quella mondiale. È con malcelata soddisfazione che l'Associazione Missionaria Aloe, presenta la pubblicazione di questo straordinario diario. Straordinario non perché vi si racconti chissà quali mirabolanti avventure, ma perché racconta, con immediatezza, con freschezza e con estrema partecipazione la vita quotidiana in questa missione situata in un piccolo villaggio sperduto nel cuore dell'Africa. Esso delinea volti, i volti di bambini come Machiamai, il piccolo bandito e di maestre come Maifeo, figlia della luna; volti che restano assolutamente impressi nella mente del lettore; delinea fatti, situazioni, quadretti e momenti di vera liricità.
