Mitzi and Goldies reunion in San Francisco is filled with joy and sorrow. After an absence of 48 years time falls away as though they never parted. The dark cloud is an illness in his family. The daily e-mails continue, more meaningful than ever, as Mitzi comforts and consoles Goldie. Their bond deepens, enhanced by the physical intimacy they have shared. Goldie sends Mitzi two birthday gifts. Each element of the jewel is imbued with significance which he delineates, the circle of diamonds indicating they have come full circle, are joined together again. The second gift is a photo album Goldie made, recreating their history, with pictures of places in their home town. On the last photo, of his school locker, he writes This is where we met between classes for 90 seconds, because we couldnt bear to be apart. Mitzi breaks her foot. At home, in pain, she reflects on Goldies marital status and writes him an e-mail saying In my experience married men dont leave, they simply break your heart. Please dont break my heart. He takes offense that she would question his integrity and motivation and suggests they go on hiatus until he has progress to report. She is devastated, sends a flurry of e-mails, begs forgiveness. They continue stronger than before. A new trip is planned, this time to Washington, D.C. It turns out to be both heaven and hell. It is heaven because the relationship is so strong, so close. He opens his heart about how bad his marriage is and his plans to end it. It is hell because they are both unwell. He suggests a third trip, to Niagara Falls. She knows this is the trip that will make all the difference, will cement their God given union. Then the unthinkable happens.

In the course of his storied career as a manager, agent, and producer, Shep Gordon has worked with—and befriended—some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, from Alice Cooper to Bette Davis, Raquel Welch to Groucho Marx, Blondie to Jimi Hendrix, Sylvester Stallone to Salvador Dalí, Luther Vandross to Teddy Pendergrass. He is also credited with inventing the “celebrity chef,” and has worked with Nobu Matsuhisa, Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck, Roger Vergé, and many others. In this wonderfully engaging memoir, the captivating entertainment legend recalls his life, from his humble beginnings as a shy, unambitious kid growing up on Long Island to his unexpected rise as one of the most influential and respected personalities in show business, revered for his kindness, charisma—and fondness for a good time. Gordon shares riotous anecdotes and outrageous accounts of his freewheeling, globe-trotting experiences with some of the biggest celebrities of the past five decades, including his first meeting with Janis Joplin in 1968, when the raspy singer punched him in the face. Told with incomparable humor and heart, They Call Me Supermensch is a sincere, hilarious, behind-the-scenes look at the worlds of music and entertainment from a consummate Hollywood insider.

This second volume portrays Lewisohn's last decades as an outspoken opponent of Nazi Germany, a leading promoter of Jewish resettlement in Palestine, a member of Brandeis University's first faculty, and one of the earliest voices advocating Jewish renewal in America. Despite his activism, Lewisohn was no longer welcome in Zionist circles by 1948 as a result of his "unacceptable" opinions concerning British intransigence, organizational politics, and, particularly, Jewish cultural and religious decline. However, the invitation to join the newly established Brandeis University as its only full professor provided him with the opportunity he sought to contribute to the reshaping of American Jewry. Lewisohn's efforts would later bear fruit in the Jewish renewal movement of the next generation.

G W F Hegel written by Michael Baur and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-01 with Philosophy categories.

The thought of G. W. F. Hegel (1770 -1831) has had a deep and lasting influence on a wide range of philosophical, political, religious, aesthetic, cultural and scientific movements. But, despite the far-reaching importance of Hegel's thought, there is often a great deal of confusion about what he actually said or believed. G. W. F. Hegel: Key Concepts provides an accessible introduction to both Hegel's thought and Hegel-inspired philosophy in general, demonstrating how his concepts were understood, adopted and critically transformed by later thinkers. The first section of the book covers the principal philosophical themes in Hegel's system: epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, ethical theory, political philosophy, philosophy of nature, philosophy of art, philosophy of religion, philosophy of history and theory of the history of philosophy. The second section covers the main post-Hegelian movements in philosophy: Marxism, existentialism, pragmatism, analytic philosophy, hermeneutics and French poststructuralism. The breadth and depth of G. W. F. Hegel: Key Concepts makes it an invaluable introduction for philosophical beginners and a useful reference source for more advanced scholars and researchers.

In Judaism, women's voices have been silenced, leaving the tradition enriched with only a "half-genius." This collection of seven plays by Jewish women playwrights helps make whole this half-genius by giving voice to some of the most creative forces in Jewish and American cultural life today. - Wendy Wasberstein's Isn't It Romantic comically examines Jewish women caught in complex, modern-day families. - Barbara Lebow's A Shayna Maidel portrays the pain of the Holocaust survivor. - Sarah Blacher Cohen's The Ladies Locker Room takes a comic look at the identity crisis of the physically challenged. - Roisrnan's Nobody's Gilgul is a contemporary re-reading of the Biblical figures Eve and Lilith. - Barbara Kahn's Whither Thou Goest illuminates Jewish lesbian relationships. - Brooks's The Night the War Came Home explores Black-Jewish relations. - Merle Feld's Across the Jordan focuses on Israeli and Palestinian women working for peace.
