This book conducts a critical investigation into everyday intercultural recognition and misrecognition in the domain of paid work, utilising social philosopher Axel Honneth’s recognition theory as its theoretical foundation. In so doing, it also reveals the sophistication and productivity of Honneth's recognition model for multiculturalism scholarship. Honneth and Everyday Intercultural (Mis)Recognition is concerned with the redress of intercultural related injustice and, more widely, the effective integration of ethically and culturally diverse societies. Bona Anna analyses the everyday experiences of cross-cultural misrecognition in a distinctive ethno-cultural group, including social norms that have been marginalised in the contexts of employment. How does one describe the Pacific's pasts? The easy confidence historians once had in writing about the region has disappeared in the turmoil surrounding today's politics of representation. Earlier narratives that focused on what happened when are now accused of encouraging myths of progress. Remembrance of Pacific Pasts takes a different course. It acknowledges history's multiplicity and selectivity, its inability to represent the past in its entirety "as it really was" and instead offers points of reference for thinking with and about the region's pasts. It encourages readers to participate in the historical process by constructing alternative histories that draw on the volume's chapters. The book's thirty-four contributions, written by a range of authors spanning a variety of styles and disciplines, are organized into four sections. The first presents frames of reference for analyzing the problems, poetics, and politics involved in addressing the region's pasts today. The second considers early Islander-Western contact focusing on how each side sought to physically and symbolically control the other. The third deals with the colonial dynamics of the region: the "tensions of empire" that permeated imperial rule in the Pacific. The fourth explores the region's postcolonial politics through a discussion of the varied ways independence and dependence overlap today. Remembrance of Pacific Pasts includes many of the region's most distinguished authors such as Albert Wendt, Greg Dening, Epeli Hau'ofa, Marshall Sahlins, Patricia Grace, and Nicholas Thomas. In addition, it features chapters by well-known writers from outside Pacific Studies -- Edward Said, James Clifford, Richard White,and Gyan Prakash -- which help place the region's dynamics in comparative perspective. By moving Pacific history beyond traditional, empirical narratives to new ways for conversing about history, by drawing on current debates surrounding the politics of representation to offer different ways for thinking about the region's pasts, this work has relevance for students and scholars of history, anthropology, and cultural studies both within and beyond the region.

The large ancient Egyptian Empire won by Thutmose III and his son, Amenhotep II, brought great wealth to Egypt. This legacy was squandered by the later pharaohs of the eighteenth dynasty. The person chiefly responsible for its loss was Waenre Amenhotep IV, who always called himself by the name Akhanaten, being devoted to his God Aten, believing in a single God Aten, represented by the Solar Disc. His crime was to attempt to force that single God on his people and attempted to destroy their beliefs in the many Gods of Egypt worshipped for centuries by his people. An attempt that caused havoc in the Middle East. Since we now know some five hundred500 years must be deducted from the present chronology of Egypt after the thirteenth dynasty, we now know that he copied his idea from the beliefs of the Israelite people and their belief in the coming of a Messiah would bring eternal peace to the world. However, this deduction means we must re-write the history of Egypt and its relations with other countries. This book attempts to do this. Although it is written in a fictionalized form to increase your enjoyment, every event is historical accurate and did occur at that time as described. But it is also a story of the true love of their men and women. Though the morals of Egypt were very different from what we accept today, they did love each other.
