Pantun yang terpilih daripada Koleksi Pantun Melayu Bingkisan Permata (2007) ini dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan puitika sastera melayu yang telah diperkenal oleh Profesor Emeritus Dr. Muhammad Haji Salleh. Dua ciri keindahan pantun yang diambil daripada pendekatan puitika sastera melayu, iaitu dunia yang dipadatkan dan kiasan dan saranan dianalisis melalui simbol tumbuhan dan haiwan yang diungkapkan dalam pantun. Melalui analisis simbol tumbuhan dan haiwan yang diungkapkan dalam pantun, jelas menggambarkan nilai keindahan yang wujud dalam pantun Melayu. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan oleh penulis mendapati, bahawa puitika sastera Melayu yang diubah untuk menganalisis pantun berdasarkan simbol yang diungkapkan dalam pantun amat sesuai diaplikasikan bagi melihat keindahan pantun. Melalui simbol yang diungkapkan dalam pantun yang mempunyai makna yang tersurat dan tersirat dalam menyampaikan makna pantun itulah yang memberikan nilai keindahan kepada pantun. Harapan dan cadangan penulis agar penerapan dan penggunaan puitika sastera Melayu ini terutamanya prinsip “yang indah-indah: estetika sastera Melayu” diperkembang oleh pengkaji dan pengkritik sastera yang lain dengan mengambil simbol lain seperti warna, anggota badan, alam kosmologi, nama tempat, dan lain-lain.

This book presents a new logical framework to capture the meaning of sentences in conversation. The traditional approach equates meaning with truth-conditions: to know the meaning of a sentence is to know under which circumstances it is true. The reason for this is that linguistic and philosophical investigations are usually carried out in a logical framework that was originally designed to characterize valid argumentation. However, argumentation is neither the sole, nor the primary function of language. One task that language more widely and ordinarily fulfils is to enable the exchange of information between conversational participants. In the framework outlined in this volume, inquisitive semantics, information exchange is seen as a process of raising and resolving issues. Inquisitive semantics provides a new formal notion of meaning, which makes it possible to model various concepts that are crucial for the analysis of linguistic information exchange in a more refined and more principled way than has been possible in previous frameworks. Importantly, it also allows an integrated treatment of statements and questions. The first part of the book presents the framework in detail, while the second demonstrates its benefits in the semantic analysis of questions, coordination, modals, conditionals, and intonation. The book will be of interest to researchers and students from advanced undergraduate level upwards in the fields of semantics, pragmatics, philosophy of language, and logic.

But the relative stability of my main preoccupation contrasted sharply with my wanderings during this same span of time. In fact, for most of it I was more or less constantly on the move, trekking from the Nether lands to Australia and back again, then to the United States, with three excursioru; to Indonesia. On all these trips I carried my notes and kept working on this project, the conclusion of which continued to elude me. Even today I can hardly believe it is allover - and in fact it is not, as this volume will soon be followed by a companion containing a shortened English translation and dealing in much greater detail with the relationship between the Malay Hikayat Muhammad Hanafiyyah, its Persian source and Muslim literature in general. I sincerely regret that technical and financial considerations have combined to make inclusion of the apparatus criticus in this edition impossible.
