It is a logical expectation that, after thousands of years of civilization, man be able to free himself from the bonds of basic needs, such as shelter, food, and financial security; or what is generally called as the struggles of survival. Today's man should be in such a position to be able to use his energies mostly for higher aspirations and goals such as love, progress and creativity. Dr. Moslehi asks the readers of her book NOT to take the content of this book so seriously when reading it for the first time. Casual reading, only for the sake of entertaining curiosity, eliminates the mind's struggles to defend the established self or analyze and compare ideas with previously learned materials. Therefore, it eliminates the obstacles of premature judgment, bias, or rejection. Being an analytical psychotherapist looking at the larger picture, Dr. Moslehi questions the wisdom of man's decision to allow the 'SYSTEM' of economy, as the case is now, to dictate the nature of all public affairs, and shapes therefore, our ways of living. She sketches images of today's societies in which human beings are running the wheel of economy under the influence of the imposed societal structures of politics, religion, media, and governmental systems. The writer warns us about the upcoming changes of elite-ruling, legitimized governmental dictatorships, the abuse of democracy and abuse of the masses, and puts forward simple forgotten facts to highlight the need to re-evaluate our thinking. She stimulates the readers' minds into thinking about existing duality and confusion over the definition and purposes of our basic structures, such as family, religion, and education. She questions the necessity for human beings at this age to spend most of their time and energy taking care of their basic needs of food, shelter, and love; and she rejects the notion of human animalistic characteristics remaining predominant as the natural rules of survival.

The first edition of this book was lavishly praised by many authorities as the most formidable demonstration of an unpopular truth: males rule in all societies known to history or anthropology, for reasons arising from innate physiology, a brute fact that can never be conjured away by tinkering with social institutions. This new edition has been completely rewritten in the light of two decades of scholarship and debate, taking account of all published criticisms of earlier editions.

What Betty Friedan, Simone de Beauvoir, and Naomi Wolf did for feminism, senior editor of The Atlantic Hanna Rosin does for a new generation of women: an explosive new argument for why women are winning the battle of the sexes. Women are no longer catching up with men. By almost every measure, they are out-performing them. ·Women in Britain hold half the jobs ·Women own over 40% of China's private businesses ·75% of couples in fertility clinics are requesting girls, not boy ·Women will outnumber men in the UK medical profession by 2017 ·In 1970, women in the US contributed to 2-6% of the family income. Now it is 42.2% This is an astonishing time. In a job market that favours people skills and intelligence, women's adaptability and flexibility makes them better suited to the modern world. In The End of Men, Hanna Rosin reveals how this has come to pass and explains its implications for marriage, sex, children, work, families and society. Exposing old assumptions and drawing on examples from across the globe, Rosin shows us how we must all adapt to a radically new way of working and living. Excerpt from book: THE SINS OF LEGISLATOES. Bb it or be it not true that Man is shapen in iniquity and conceived in sin, it is unquestionably true that Government is begotten of aggression and by aggression. In small undeveloped societies where for ages complete peace has continued, there exists nothing like what we call Government: no coercive agency, but mere honorary headship, if any headship at all. In these exceptional communities, unaggressive and from special causes unaggressed upon, there is so little deviation from the virtues of truthfulness, honesty, justice, and generosity, that nothing beyond an occasional expression of public opinion by informally-assembled elders is needful. Conversely, we find proofs that, at first recognized but temporarily during leadership in war, the authority of a chief is permanently established by continuity of war; and grows strong .-where successful aggression ends in subjection of neighbouring tribes. And thence onwards, examples furnished by all races put beyond doubt the truth, that the coercive power of the chief, developing into king, and king of kings (a frequent title in the ancient East), becomes great in proportion as conquest becomes habitual and the nnion of subdued nations extensive.f Comparisons disclose a further truth which should be ever present to us ? the truth that the aggressiveness of the ruling power inside a society increases with its aggressiveness outside the society. As, to make an efficient army, the soldiers in their several grades must be subordinate to the commander; so, to make an efficient fighting community, must the citizens be subordinate to the ruling power. Political Inslitutiotu, 437, 573. f Ilid- 471-3. They must furnish recruits to the extent demanded, and yield up whatever property is required. An o...

In a mist-shrouded valley on China's invisible border with Tibet is a place known as the "Kingdom of Women," where a small tribe called the Mosuo lives in a cluster of villages that have changed little in centuries. In a mist-shrouded valley on China's invisible border with Tibet is a place known as the "Kingdom of Women," where a small tribe called the Mosuo lives in a cluster of villages that have changed little in centuries. This is one of the last matrilineal societies on earth, where power lies in the hands of women. All decisions and rights related to money, property, land and the children born to them rest with the Mosuo women, who live completely independently of husbands, fathers and brothers, with the grandmother as the head of each family. A unique practice is also enshrined in Mosuo tradition--that of "walking marriage," where women choose their own lovers from men within the tribe but are beholden to none.

The Cambridge Companion To Weber written by Stephen Turner and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-04-13 with History categories.

Max Weber is indubitably one of the very greatest figures in the history of the social sciences, the source of seminal concepts like 'the Protestant Ethic', 'charisma' and the idea of historical processes of 'rationalization'. But, like his great forebears Adam Smith and Karl Marx, Weber's work always resists easy categorisation. Prominent as a founding father of sociology, Weber has been a major influence in the study of ancient history, religion, economics, law and, more recently, cultural studies. This Cambridge Companion provides an authoritative introduction to the major facets of his thought, including several (like industrial psychology) which have hitherto been neglected. A distinguished international team of contributors examines some of the major controversies that have erupted over Weber's specialized work, and shows how the issues have developed since he wrote. The articles demonstrate Weber's impact on a variety of research areas.
