Crop Ecology written by R. S. Loomis and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-10-08 with Nature categories.

This book is centred on the 'production processes' of crops and pastures - photosynthesis and use of water and nutrients in fields. The book is unique in its combination of great breadth and depth in its treatment of production processes and systems problems. The approach is explanatory and integrative, with a firm basis in environmental physics, soils, physiology, and morphology, in contrast to descriptive or reductionist approaches. Systems concepts are introduced early and expanded as the book proceeds, giving emphasis to quantitative approaches, to management strategies and tactics employed by farmers, and to environmental issues. The systems approach is brought together in the final chapters where production and nutrient cycling are analyzed, for example farms and problems in an uncertain future are considered. The book is based on courses taught by the authors in Australia and the United States and is designed for use as a text for an introductory course in crop ecology (advanced undergraduates and beginning post-graduate level). It is more than a text, however. Given the wide range of subjects, the authors have integrated reference and background material to create a 'stand-alone' reference work useful to a wide audience of agriculturalists.

Operations Management in Agriculture bridges the knowledge gap on operations management for agricultural machinery. It complements traditional topics (cost of using and choosing machinery) with advanced engineering approaches recently applied in agricultural machinery management (area coverage planning and sequential scheduling). The book covers new technologies in bio-production systems (robotics, IoT) and environmental compliance by employing a systems engineering perspective with focuses on sub-systems, including advanced optimization, supply chain systems, sustainability, autonomous vehicles and IT-driven decision-making. It will be a valuable resource for students studying decision-making and those working to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of production through machinery choice. Covers agricultural machinery management related courses and a number of other courses within the agricultural engineering discipline Provides core tools for machine operations management, including machinery selection and cost of usage Presents current knowledge for agricultural machinery management in a science-based format

Farm Management In Peasant Agriculture written by Michael Collinson and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-04 with Science categories.

First published in 1972, Farm Management in Peasant Agriculture remains the only detailed discussion of on-site research techniques for economists working on the development of small-holder agriculture in Africa. Part 1 describes the conditions of the agricultural sector within which the African peasant farmer must operate, and then outlines an approach to farm management tailored to those conditions. Part 2 sets out the research planning and investigation tasks implied by the approach. Survey techniques, as well as the value of a pre-survey for understanding general attributes of a farm system, are reviewed, and alternative data-collection methods are elaborated. Part 3 shows how research data can be used in planning content for extension programs. Dr. Collinson concludes with the details of a planning method that interpolates changes in farm practice into a model of the existing farm system and that projects a sequence of changes, representing a sequence of extension content, on the basis of farmer acceptability.

Sustainable agriculture is a key concept for scientists, researchers, and agricultural engineers alike. This book focuses on the FAM- project (FAM Munich Research Network on Agroecosystems) of the 1990s as a means to assessing, forecasting, and evaluating changes in the agroecosystems that are necessary for agricultural sustainability. The management of two separate management systems: an organic and an integrated farming system are described to provide an interdisciplinary approach Changes of matter fluxes in soils, changes of trace gas fluxes from soils, precision farming in a small scale heterogen landscape, influence of management changes on flora and fauna, as well as the development of agroecosystem models, the assessment of soil variability and the changes in nutrient status are important aspects of this book. * Contains detailed results and insight of a long-time project on agricultural sustainability * Provides an interdisciplinary approach for comprehensive understanding by scientists and researchers of soil, plants, agriculture, and environment * Includes an international perspective

This book discusses the methods to determine optimal systems in farm business management. The methods are all about problem solving, as any decision situation implies choice and, therefore, requires a method for deciding which alternative maximizes the objectives. The book is not, however, about carrying out the optimal plans. Most of the chapters relate to quantitative methods and qualitative analysis. The book has a penultimate chapter discussing a number of analytical models that are commonly used in urban business but which are less important in primary production. The results of farming systems analyses can have a major impact on good decision-making in any primary producing community. Some of the methods might be used by farmers themselves, but more likely by farm advisors and consultants, and by farm management researchers interested in, firstly, providing farmers with guidance on optimal systems, and, secondly, providing governments with advice on the impact of farm policy measures.

Rapid Industrialisation Coupled With Population Explosion Has Resulted In Greater Urbanisation. Because Of These, The Water That Was Available For Agriculture Is Now Being Shared By Various Sectors. This Has Resulted In A Gradual Decline In Per Capita Land And Water Availability. At The Same Time The Need To Increase The Food Production To Feed The Increasing Population Is Being Increasingly Felt. Mismanagement Of Available Water Has Added One More Dimension To This Problem Resulting In Development Of Problem Soils, Thus Causing Reduction In The Production Per Unit Quantity Of Water. Hence It Has Become Absolutely Necessary To Use The Available Water Resources In Such A Manner As To Get The Maximum Returns Per Unit Quantity Of Water. At Present No Book Covers The Multifaceted Nature Of This Problem. Hence In This Book All Aspects Like Methods Of Irrigation, Measurement Of Water, Quality Of Waters, Water Requirements Of Crops, Scheduling Of Irrigation, Water Budgeting, Irrigation Efficiency, Drainage, Recycling, Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Physiological Aspects Of Irrigation System, Etc. Have Been Covered. A Separate Section Of Constraints And Weakness In The Current Water Management Practices Is Also Included In This Book. This Book Will Be Of Great Help To The Administrators Dealing With Water Management, Water Technologists, Scholars And Farmers Who Are Taking Steps To Maximise The Benefits Of The Available Water Resources On The Scientific Basis To Get The Higher Productivity Of Water.
