Bachelor Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Musicology - Miscellaneous, grade: 2, University of Graz, language: English, abstract: The article deals with the different kinds of manipulation of background music on the human being. Several studies are discussed about the consequences of background music on decision making, driving, buying, eating at a restaurant, etc. The question about the possibilities of an escape from the influence of music is asked and discussed. At first the functions and mechanisms of background music are elaborated, before the effects on the human being are discussed. Subsequently tests are presented about the various influences of background music in order to achieve control of people. Furthermore the controversies about the famous Mozart- Effect are taken into consideration. It is also interesting to know how background music has an impact on the physical body. To explain this phenomenon the working mechanisms of the brain are illuminated by including the latest findings about brain and music in the last months. This article ends with some concrete suggestions how to overcome being influenced and manipulated by background music.

Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich BWL - Offline-Marketing und Online-Marketing, Note: 2,0, Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Musik wurde in den vergangenen Jahren zu einem zentralen Thema im Marketing. Die folgende Arbeit untersucht die Wirkung von Musik in TV-Werbespots auf Emotion und Marke. Sie besteht aus einem theoretischen und aus einem empirischen Teil. Im theoretischen Teil wird zunächst ein Überblick über bisherige Forschung zu diesem Thema gegeben. Die Wirkung von Musik sei situationsabhängig. So spielt es beispielsweise eine Rolle, unter welchem Involvement sich ein Verbraucher befindet, während er einen Werbespot sieht. Darüber hinaus kann die Wirkung von Musik von weiteren Variablen beeinträchtigt werden. Aufbauend auf die bisherigen Studien, dient eine empirische Untersuchung zur Überprüfung der Wirkung von Musik in der Fernsehwerbung auf Emotion, Einstellung zur Marke sowie auf Einstellung zur Werbung. Drei verschiedene Werbespots der Marken eBay, Sony und Lufthansa werden untersucht. Entgegen vorheriger Studien wird auf bereits exitierende Werbespots zurückgegriffen. Zur Datenerhebung wurde ein Onlinefragebogen erstellt, welcher von 241 Probanden vollständig ausgefüllt wurde. Die Probanden sahen den Werbespot entweder mit Musik oder ohne Musik, keiner sah jedoch beide Varianten. Die Ergebnisse bestätigen, dass Musik in der Fernsehwerbung positive Emotionen hervorrufen kann. Diese Emotionen können sich direkt auf die Einstellung zur Marke auswirken. Je höher die emotionale Reaktion, desto positiver ist die Einstellung zur Marke. Zudem können weitere Variablen eine Rolle spielen. So gefällt Probanden der Werbespot besser, wenn sie diesen bereits kannten. Wurde das geworbene Produkt oder die geworbene Marke bereits einmal genutzt, fiel die emotionale Reaktion positiver aus. Auf die Einstellung zur Werbung zeigte Musik in diesem Fall keine positive Wirkung. Forschungsbedarf, unter anderem auch unter natürlicheren Bedingungen, besteht.

Ich habe meine Arbeit dem Thema Manipulation durch Musik gewidmet. Da dieses Thema aber sehr breit ist und mehrerer Maturaarbeiten würdig wäre, habe ich mich konkret auf HipHoptexte konzentriert. Meine Hauptfrage war: Wann, wo und wie stark kann uns Musik mit ihren Texten manipulieren? Um dies beantworten zu können, habe ich mich zuerst mit einigen wichtigen Manipulationstechniken vertraut machen müssen. Ich fand heraus, dass es sehr viele verschiedene Methoden gibt, einen anderen Menschen das machen zu lassen, was man gerne möchte. Ich habe versucht, einige wichtige Techniken aus dieser Menge herauszufiltern und mit Beispielen zu illustrieren, damit man sich besser etwas darunter vorstellen kann. Während ich diese Beispiele für die verschiedenen Techniken sammelte, wurde mir bewusst, wie stark wir in unserem Alltag manipuliert werden. Mir ist klar geworden, dass eigentlich jede und jeder von uns manipuliert wird aber auch selbst manipuliert. Dies kann auch ohne weiteres unbewusst geschehen, weil wir im Laufe unseres Lebens gemerkt haben, dass es auf diese Art und Weise einfacher funktioniert. Wenn man die vorgestellten Techniken nun mit Melodien zu Liedern verbindet, entsteht dadurch eine noch grössere Manipulationsmacht. Die Texte, die wir in Musikstücken hören, beeinflussen uns, wenn auch zum Teil unbewusst. Ich habe auch gemerkt, dass Manipulation durch Musik kein neues Phänomen ist, sondern schon in der griechischen Mythologie auftauchte. Was konkret die HipHoptexte anbelangt, habe ich herausgefunden, dass sich sehr wohl Manipulationstechniken finden lassen. Je nach Rapper sind sogar eine ganze Menge vertreten, von dem Erzeugen von Angst und Unsicherheit bis hin zur Hetze. Meine Arbeit sollte natürlich keine Verurteilung von HipHop sein, sondern viel mehr an einem bestimmten Beispiel zeigen, dass Manipulation durch Musik etwas Alltägliches ist.
