El presente manual de producción de pimentón bajo invernadero recoge las experiencias y resultados del proyecto de investigación "Desarrollo e implementación de un modelo de producción para los cultivos de pepino y pimentón bajo invernadero ". El objetivo general de este proyecto fue el de establecer un modelo de producción de pepino y pimentón bajo condiciones de invernadero, a partir de la optimización de las condiciones climáticas y el manejo agronómico de los cultivos. El propósito último del proyecto, y presentado a lo largo de este manual, es el de demostrarle a productores, asistentes técnicos y demás personas interesadas, la viabilidad en el establecimiento de sistemas alternativos de producción bajo invernadero con especies como el pepino y el pimentón. A partir de las ventajas ofrecidas por los ambientes protegidos al limitar el efecto adverso que sobre la producción tienen diferentes factores biofísicos, es posible cultivar productos diferentes al tomate que generen al menos la misma rentabilidad ofrecida por este producto. Hortalizas como el pimentón de diversos colores, pueden convertirse en alternativas interesantes de rotación desde el punto de vista económico y de esta forma, disminuir el riesgo asociado a la variación de precios que tradicionalmente ha tenido no solamente el tomate sino también muchos de los productos hortícolas producidos y comercializados en el país.

Current trends in population growth hint that global food production is unlikely to gratify future demands under predicted climate change scenarios unless the rates of crop improvement are accelerated. In The Extractive Zone Macarena Gómez-Barris traces the political, aesthetic, and performative practices that emerge in opposition to the ruinous effects of extractive capital. The work of Indigenous activists, intellectuals, and artists in spaces Gómez-Barris labels extractive zones—majority indigenous regions in South America noted for their biodiversity and long history of exploitative natural resource extraction—resist and refuse the terms of racial capital and the continued legacies of colonialism. Extending decolonial theory with race, sexuality, and critical Indigenous studies, Gómez-Barris develops new vocabularies for alternative forms of social and political life. She shows how from Colombia to southern Chile artists like filmmaker Huichaqueo Perez and visual artist Carolina Caycedo formulate decolonial aesthetics. She also examines the decolonizing politics of a Bolivian anarcho-feminist collective and a coalition in eastern Ecuador that protects the region from oil drilling. In so doing, Gómez-Barris reveals the continued presence of colonial logics and locates emergent modes of living beyond the boundaries of destructive extractive capital.
